88 V6 to 5.3L

Been a long time since I've been on the board! I no longer have my 84, and recently acquired an 88 V6 that I'm in the process of swapping to 5.3L / TH350 setup. I've been searching high and low but cant find the following definite answers:

I was going to use Trans-Dapt 4595 adapters. Since its a V6 car what will i need to put on the k member to make it work? Move the V6 mounts to the forward holes or what?

using this combo with a TH350, will the stock drive shaft work or be too short?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Steve

It's been a long time since I looked into the V6 engine mounts, but I believe you can use them if you move them to the V8 position.

If the Trans Dapt piece fits over the V6 chassis side mounts, I believe they'll work.

Send them back, get Trans-Dapt 4536 brackets. See my thread for more details.

Re: 88 V6 to 5.3L

I left my v6 mount in the stock location on the k-member. I made my own engine plates though. They're extremely easy to make. By doing so the O.E. 700r4 drive shaft fit with the th350 like a glove.

Re: 88 V6 to 5.3L

Looks like Anobii used 1/8" for the uprights. This might work, but I would not trust it to keep the engine from crushing my legs in the event of a frontal crash. My Trans-Dapts are 1/4".

Re: 88 V6 to 5.3L

They are 3/16". I added a cross tie at the base of the legs and welded them along their length to the 1/4" plate for a bit more support, but I never snapped a pic. 1/4" for the legs is a bit excessive for what they do, but, on the other hand a little over engineering is rarely a bad thing.

The solution, anyway, is don't frontal crash, you put too much work into just to drive it into something.

Wow, I hope I didn't seem as insulting as that strikes me.
I guess you've never seen a crash where the front car stopped at a red light got totalled, and there was no escape path.

Re: 88 V6 to 5.3L

How on earth did you find that insulting? I explained a little better how I made the mounts, I even agreed that it wouldn't hurt to make them better. Maybe I should've added a :P after my crash comment to show I was being facetious.

Anywho, please don't turn this into a debate about crash-ology. :P

Re: 88 V6 to 5.3L

cosmick with 4536, are you able to use the stock driveshaft and no clearance done to the stock kmember?

Looks like you still had some issues with the 4536, details?
