LS1 Swap 4L60E Question
An inch or so down from where my 700r4 cross member is bolted to the frame it's badly dented so i'm not sure if new holes can be tapped for the 4L60E depending on where the conversion cross member has to be put on, does anyone have pics or know exactly how far up or down from the 700r4 cross member the 4L60E cross member holes have to be tapped?

Re: LS1 Swap 4L60E Question
Why are you moving the crossmember? There's no need. Use the 700R-4 x-member in the 700R-4 location with the ES poly mount. I know for fact, from my own hands-on experience, that this works for the 1995.5 version of the 4L60E.

The swap crossmembers use the same bolt holes the factory crossmember used. So, if the original mounting location is undamaged, you can use a swap crossmember bolted to the same place. They just move the mount pad where it need to be for the LS1 4L60E.
Which swap crossmember were you considering using?

However, they moved the mount location with the LS1 4L60E.

As the item description says, "...utilizes the OEM sub-frame mounting holes to allow for an easy direct bolt-in installation."

Yeah I looked that up right after I read your reply before this one and seen that, thanks! Also would you happen to know if these long tubes will work? It looks like it says they're compatible but some people will say anything to make a quick buck

Re: LS1 Swap 4L60E Question
Yes they do
I've seen a article that shorties don't make a difference compared to stock manifolds forget what magazine
Also the 2001-2002 exhuast manifolds flow better then the later ones
That's the ones I'm running till after I finish the swap then go mid length or long tubes
On ls1tech there's a guy getting 400rwhp on stock manifolds on a eps cam
Only issue with headman like stated is that you have to use there mounts which is expensive and mightiest well buy hawks long tubes
There was a comparison on different header diameter and that there wasn't much difference in power output they where all pretty close

The listing says, "Designed for", not "must use". May or may not be an issue. Most likely, looking at the parts in their kit, would not be a problem with other conversion mounts.

Re: LS1 Swap 4L60E Question
but
are you talking about midlength
or
the there longtubes i was refering to the long tubes not the midlengths
i got this from there site
"To ensure the best header fit, and an all-around secure engine swap, it is STRONGLY recommended that Husler's long tube header models only be installed using Husler's conversion mount kits. Please visit the 1982-92 GM F-Body Conversion kit section for further details"

Longtubes.
Yeah, that's pretty standard CYA marketing stuff.
Interesting in their strongly worded note they say 1982-92, but the header listing itself says 1983-92.

Re: LS1 Swap 4L60E Question
i laugh when i seen the word strongly bolded.. all product have there trickery marketing antics got to make $$$ at the end of the day and no way around that
im just looking at the standpoint of least labor work needed due to some people like myself dont have access to fabricate stuff
or
would have to pay expensive hourly labor charges assuming if you want it done right
Either the marketing will fool you or the expensive hourly labor charge will hurt the pocket.. unless you have deep pockets of course
for midlength check this thread

Re: LS1 Swap 4L60E Question
My friend was telling me about these brackets you can get off Jegs that mount to the LS1 so you can use the standard SBC mounts & that it also makes the ls1 a tad bid more above the k member than other mounts so the Hawks headers should fit, has anyone heard something like that or can confirm it?

Such plates are available from several sources: Transdapt, Holley (Hooker), Doug's, eBay, etc. I have a set from eBay I'm using on the LS1/4L60E car with Hawks 1-3/4" primary long tube headers.
They bolt to the block, then you can bolt your 3rd gen V8 mounts to them. They don't move the engine up.
Downside is they get in the way of the 4th gen AC compressor. If you're okay not using the 4th gen AC compressor, then they'll work.
