89 GTA LS3/Whipple swap
Figured I would post up a little project I'm working on you guys might like. I will document as I go as well as bring you up to speed of where we are at right now.
First off, the car is owned by one of my partners of the shop we own. It came in about a year ago for a simple paint job. Car had a mild rebuilt TPI. It then was decided he wanted a bit more power. We put in a P1sc procharger and took it off to the dyno. Car made decent power and that was going to be it.
I have a pretty wicked fourth gen and got a killer deal on a Rossler TH350 with a brake. So since I have a torn rotator cuff, I decided to ditch my t56 set up and he bought it off me. I converted the car over and then it was game time. Things got a bit out of control and he went crazy on ordering all the supporting hardware for the car.
Moser 12 bolt with 4.10's
Spohn torque arm
Spohn lca's and panhard
Spohn front Lca's
conversion trans cross member
Strano struts, springs and shocks.
We got the car dialed in minus the front bumper which needed replaced. Paint was good to go, just needed wetsanded and buffed out. He got to take it for a few blasts around the block and loved it.
Well, I have some friends in the right places and a deal came up that was too good to pass up. I got a LS3 pull out with 100 miles on it from a very well known builder of 5th gen supercars.
Plan was to then pretty it up, order the correct brackets to run the procharger on the LS3 and call it a day.
Well, that kind of went out the window and other deals from this place were too good to pass up. So no the car has taken a complete different direction and being built as a show/drag car.
We got a deal on some Wegner motorsports heads with inconel valves. Some very nice billet valve covers, 95lbs flow matched injectors, custom wires, ported DBW tb and a custom ground cam.
We yanked the entire current set up out just before Christmas. A UMI k member was ordered, Yanked the harness out and being sent off to Current Performance, and it was decided to sell off the trans set up as well as the Procharger. A whipple supercharger will be ordered here shortly as well as a cage and TH400 with a brake and FTI billet race converter. Also using a bad *** oil catch can set up that is used by the place we got everything else from. Hawks conversion headers.
We are still undecided which cage to go with and wheel and tire set up. Also looking at what will be the best fuel set up, probably go through Lonnies.
Now the car is getting painted Black with kona blue stripes
Anyway, enough for now.... here are some pics of the car and some of the parts we have. Sucks though that the intake won't be used, I just got the fuel rails all set up.

Well spent the day removing the interior and sanding down the spots I didn't like in the engine bay. Patching up some holes etc. Doing wiper delete and also smoothing some things out.
Some pics...

Looks like a great project.
The heads & cam package are a proven performer. I think you will like it.
Mine has taken an eternity to build, but I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck with the build.

Hey Jim
I really like the valve covers he went with. It looks really clean.

Yeah the valve covers are really nice in person, expensive but nice.
As of yesterday the cage was ordered and wiring harness is 6-8 weeks out from being completed. UMI k member should be here in about a week or so.
