Another ls1-t56 swap- only one question so far...;)

Re: Another ls1-t56 swap- only one question so far...;)
Got home at 9:30, but was able to scuff the aluminum covers and hose it down with brake cleaner and blow it out with a air gun. Did decide on silver, wasn't as close of a match to the bare heads as I was hoping, but at this point, it is what it is.

Worked a 14 hour day yesterday, and didnt even touch the car last night. I did today however, get it all back together with help from the friend that got the lq4 for me. He had prior obligations and had to leave after we set the motor and trans in, so all I need to do is get help to put the hood back on after I burp the cooling system tomorrow. Only let it run for maybe a minute, sounds good and has awesome oil pressure, almost 60 at cold idle. Tuner/builder instructed to go on a short drive and do a couple 2,000-4,000 rpm pulls in 3rd and 4th gear at half throttle, to create high cylinder pressures to begin setting the rings as quickly as possible. He does not want me to go over half throttle or much over 4,000 without a re-tune. Going Wednesday afternoon for him to finish the break in and re-adjust the tune on the dyno.
Stay tuned for new dyno vid and dyno numbers, what's your best guesses?
Not sure where torque will be, but based off my ls1 numbers, I am thinking 410-415 RWHP

TJ only charged 150 for a re-tune, thought that was really cool of him. 407 HP and 391 TQ at the tire, rev limited upper to 6800. He tells me the rings are fully seated now and just beat the snot out of it, change oil in 500 and don't worry about it any further. Doesn't seem like much more power than the ls1, but it sure does roll the tires a lot further than the old motor. Spin from 15 in first to 65 in second is not very difficult

looks like your peak torque is up about 20, but i bet the curve looks a lot better through the whole range with the 6.0....

He gave me another dyno sheet on Wednesday, but I honestly haven't really looked at it. I am going to compare the two when I get home, you have me curious now. Been chasing a stupid electrical problem since it came back from the tuner. Think I have it figured out now though. Was losing power to injectors and coils on bank2 intermittently, and finally had it screw up Lon enough today to trace it out with my multi-meter. Found a damaged pin in my C207 connector, haven't had the issue since, so hopefully we are good there. Just glad it waited to give problems until after it left the tuner.....

So how goes the 6.0???

Re: Another ls1-t56 swap- only one question so far...;)
I have around 550 miles on it now, and still running good after finding the damaged C207 pin. Only other issue I have had is a broken rocker arm. Not sure if it was a fluke happening, or if maybe my valve springs are too stiff?

I would think if the valvesprings are too tight you would have many more broken. Glad to see you are up and running again!!!

Very solid car..hope it lasts alot longer this time around. What is your total setup on that 6.0 now h/c/i/e wise? Aside from small issues of rockers arms etc and fixing them, any other plans for this car..or leaving it just the way it is in order to complete the other toys?

.030 flat tops, unported 243s milled .030, TSP torquer cam, stock ls6 intake and stock ls1 TB, with 4inch CAI and 85MM MAF. Hawks 1-3/4 longtubes with 3 inch collectors. Exhaust is a true dual setup with Xpipe. 3 inch from the collectors to the Xpipe, and 2.5 out of the xpipe with magnaflow 4inch roundcase mufflers behind the bumper. Was able to tuck exhaust up enough that I have yet to have ground clearance problems. No drone, sounds awesome, although it is a bit louder at partial throttle than I wanted.
Have thoughts of ls3 Intake and heads, but not sure if gains are worth the cost. May do 317s and a Maggie someday after I get a 8.8 under the rear... But for now its focus on a upcoming g wedding and house projects, and a 67' sportvan I would love to get done.

Very interesting to see the difference in power from your setup compared to mine with similar builds.I have slightly less compression having stock dish pistons, same heads, same intake and tb and maf and tad smaller cam.My intake piping and exhaust were Im lacking the most.
Id love to see how your car does on the track..should put down good times at a good mph

Excited to get to the track, but my ten bolt worries me. Tuner guesses I should go through the traps around 117-118. He figures 12.50s on street tires is going to be the best it can do, and 11.90-12.2 range with slicks. Will be Interesting to see how close his guesses are to my driving abilities. Have you had any runs at the strip yet?

Lol yes I have.blew the tires off doing 13.5@116mph
A novice stick driver at the track so still learning the ropes with my shifting and launching. I think your goals are a little low..I can see low 12s being possible but going to take good tire and hard launch...which get over the fear of breaking the rear..its on borrowed time regardless lol

The sbc I had last summer was running somewhat consistent 13.0s and 13.1s, best of 12.93@107 with a 1.94xx 60' on about the best day for racing you could ask for. I would be plenty happy to run in the 12.2-12.5 range.
Out setups probably make closer to the same power than it appears, I wonder how much the gear ratio effects the dyno numbers, I have 3.90s.

I got 3.27gear..dont know how much that accounts for dyno numbers but it certainly will for trap speeds and et at the track.Off the line I feel quite sluggish but once I get to 2600rpm and up starts to pull nicely. The 228r cam is 588/588 228/228 @ 112lsa..i was torn between this and the v2.How do you like its performance?
I do like that from here..I can see what power differences I get adding mods in stages.Cam only i hit 310whp,changed to 243 heads and made 370whp,still need longtubes and 3 inch y pipe, bigger cai and throttle body, port my 243 heads and maybe an underdrive pulley is as far as i want to take it.

I have about 2,000 miles on the 6.0 now. At 1500 miles on this oil change, it's clean as the day I changed it and haven't lost a drop of it. Finally made a few passes at the test and tune tonight, I was pleasantly surprised. First(and slowest) pass was a 12.30@117, and the last pass was a 12.17@118. These passes were all on 2 year old street tires.
Went there tonight just hoping to hit a 12.5xx, very very happy. Averaging 16.5 MPG going to work and cruise nights, and just a hair over 21 on the highway with 3.90 gears. Very happy to have done this swap, totally worth it. Next up is a good rear end and sticky tires with hopes of high 11s.

Thanks! After those two initial issues I haven't had even the slightest issue. Really enjoy the drive ability and day-to-day consistentsy gained compared to the previous carbed engines I have had. It's very fun to see the strange looks at car shows too. Most take a quick look, then have to stop for a second look.

It's that time of year again, the Camaro(and my non-thirdgen) are safely tucked away for winter. Just wanted to do an end of year update on the swap. I managed to rack up 4700 miles on the swap over summer, 4500 of which were on the fresh 370. Still; absolutely no issues. fuel mileage has came up a bit as well. Maybe the engine loosened up a bit, or my driving habbits mellowed out.
The ten bolt on the other hand, is whining in a feeble attempt fir mercy. I have an explorer 8.8 housing with a 31 spline posi and 4:10s, and a thirdgen disc rear bare housing setting aside, for a hybrid 8.8 swap. I will take photos and start another thread in the proper forum when that project begins, and link it to this thread when it's completed. I also have almost everything for a LS1 brake upgrade, front and rear to do this winter as well. Wanting to attend open track days now and again at ginger an raceway next summer, just for fun; but the factory thirdgen brakes just will not be up for the hard work. Would like to get a set of slicks once the 8.8 is together, and shoot for mid-high 11s.
