Hawks new long tube y pipe combo?

Havent seen it posted on the forums yet but Hawks released their 1 5/8 headers with 2 1/2 offroad y pipe. From the Pics ..this looks to be tucked alot nicer than the other y pipes offered in their kits.but I fear the bends might neck down too much.I like the pricing though lol:

Opinions?

Not lazy, they just want to rake in the money from unsuspecting victims, quickly.

Being Ive bought all 3 sets of 3rdGen china / ebay turbo headers over the years to look at quality/fit/finish etc... I can say the hawks stuff "looks" to be from the same manufacturing kinds. Flanges look identical , the welds look identical. etc..

So what's your opinion of each ebay header you mentioned? Could you mention the differences? Fit or just price differences?

Re: Hawks new long tube y pipe combo?

In my opinion and a buddy of mine who does custom welding on titaium , iconle , stainless , etc.... For the Price of the EBAY stuff it was "ok" Its made out of a cheaper cold rolled stainless.(meaning it starts out as sheets not tube). On the bends a magnet WILL stick. on the straights it wont. Welds look good. but the process while welded IS NOT gas purged in the process. So the welds are a little weaker then they could be.

This is why they crack at the welds. Not a big deal go go back over the welds if you can weld yoursefl or know a shop that will do it for ya. Overall would I buy them to use myself? If I coouldnt make my own stuff YES I would. Its worth the cost savings unless you have the $$ to burn on REAL STAINLESS WORKS stuff. Allen and the guys at stainless so AWESOME work.

Re: Hawks new long tube y pipe combo?

While they dont look as pimpin as their SW line the price is right for someone wanting to do a budget swap. They'll make a hella lot more power than manifolds so there is some good reason to buy these especially for 5.3/4.8 swaps.

Not everything has to be top line, my only beef was when stuff started showing up at B level when they were selling as A level parts.

1 5/8? I'd rather use stock manifolds lol. That y pipe looks horrible.

Re: Hawks new long tube y pipe combo?

No big deal, buy everything they knockoff from china.

Doesnt matter when you cant buy gas because its $8.00/gl, you'll have gotten everything you own cheaper.

Not to mention you'll see nothing new because companys that engineer these things wont bother, because someone will just rip it off.

No brains inside I swear.

Re: Hawks new long tube y pipe combo?

i'll say it again...go for the brp/hedman husler mids. you won't be disappointed. way less money than you are looking at spending, and you get a set of ceramic coated 1 3/4" primary tube headers. you aren't going to notice a significant difference in a street car.

they are a great alternative cam, i have quite a few pictures of the fitment in my build thread. i used stock sbc mounts and adapter plates with no issues. i spent about 4 months researching different options, still the best bang for the buck as far as i'm concerned. mine have over 2k miles on them now and i've had no issues.

Re: Hawks new long tube y pipe combo?

Yea the mac stuff looks good for mids.. I just dont want to leave alot on the table for my combo. The mids would give me good ground clearance since Im lowered.

Heres the link if anyone needs to find them:

i don't think you will be leaving anything on the table. i've got more compression and more cam than you do, and my combo pulls hard all the way to the rev limiter with 3.23s. i've seen the dyno numbers on what is gained and lost on a street car between long tubes and mid tubes, you aren't going to notice. a true, tuned, equal length primary tubed header is rare to find, i had a set for a bbf that went on my 1948 english ford anglia drag car. they were custom made.

ceramic coated headers for almost half(or more than half, depending on size) of what you are planning on spending with the other guys.
