LT1's into 91 Vert, and 91 HT simultaneously

Ya Im nuts but here goes. these are not my first rodeo ( see my sig)

A little about myself; I am an accomplished electronics tech 32 years experience, Fair mechanic, and an accomplished metal fabricator (IE Tinbender)

Now down to business; the plan is to do the Vortec Distributor conversion on both of these, we will start out with a Vortec motor harness, and a 411 LS ECU, I am going 4L80E, (purely for longevity and durability) the son wants to go with a manual 5 speed. I decided to start the thread now as I havent pulled the hood off of mine yet, and the son's has the drivetrain already pulled. I do want to document this all the way in the event someone else wishes to do this. Also we will be tearing down my motor, to replace gaskets and seals, she has a mear 7k on the clock, but spent 12 years on a stand. I will start posting pictures as soon as we get started.

Subscribed! Buying an lt1 block today and building on it for awhile. Can't wait to see more detail.

I would recommend that you go with the Vortec distributor and scrap the OPTI-NO-SPARK as they are $350+ and a beach to work on, the Vortec conversion is $250, problem solved, for good!!!

Switching it to a vortech distributor would you still be able to use the lt4 intake?

a few years back there was a company that was doing this as a mail order mod, sadly they are out of business, and "we" had to reverse engineer the mod

I have been putting a lot of thinking into my car, trying to decide how far to go with it. complete "frame off" restor complete "wild" motor or just get it running??? decisions decisions.

Re: LT1's into 91 Vert, and 91 HT simultaneously

Some progress at last, pulled the heads off, "all" of the outer head bolts (by the spark plugs) were loose. The head gaskets far front and far back water passage holes were plugged with rust, both heads. Hum, I wonder why it was bubbling??? The inside of the motor was as clean as a new one; it hadn’t been run long enough to blacken the motor oil! As bad as I want to "BUILD" a beast, I'm going to have to be frugal, the "change" we were promised isn’t working to well for me! LOL going to take the block in for freshening up plan to get the rotating assy balanced while there. Not sure what from there yet. This will proly be a ten-year project, like ten years to finish. LOL

lol true that man, sounds like that block definatly needs to see the hot tank. at least since it has such low miles you can re-use the stock rotating assembly.

Slap some new bearings in and put it together. and post pics!

Re: LT1's into 91 Vert, and 91 HT simultaneously

Howdy Y'all, thought I'd give an update,

Due to the brown eyed blond beauty (LOL) the sons HT is getting a V6 put back in, seems his money doesn't spread far enough lately? I don't get it

I have found a T56 to put behind the "stock" LT1 in the convertible, also found a Vortec wiring harness for my ECU/distributor conversion. slowly getting there, hope to drive it in a couple of months.
