Why didnt I get a Pro5.0 long ago
So I decided among the things to change after my first track visit on this setup was to get a short shifter.Wow I wish I had sooner...this is soo much more postive and missing 3rd gear isnt a problem so far.I do need to slightly adjust the downward gear stopper..it sometimes pops out of 2nd/4th/6th.I have it set just a touch too high.Other than that..shift times severly cut down.Im using a much shorter stick aswell from ws6store for the fbody. Its a nice height and with the angle cut on it lines up nicely for me in the 4thgen console.
I thought about using the Mgw short shifter but I just cant justify spending near $300 on a shifter alone. It looks purtty lol.
Anyways Im curious as to what you guys are using..for shifters..pro5.0 or hursts,b&m etc and how do you like them in our cars?

I've got the Hurst the factory used for the SS's. I need to be a little careful on the 2-3, but if I don't get stupid, I can hit it consistently. Last weekend I made 23 passes between Friday and Saturday. I missed 3rd twice on Friday (hadn't driven the car for 2 weeks), once in time trials and once in eliminations (still won that round - the other guy couldn't find me, stayed in it too long and broke out). But, I hit all 13 shifts on Saturday.
I would like not having to worry about it, but for now, it's doing okay. We'll see what I think on Monday, though - have races Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend...

Nice.. when i was looking up reviews on the hurst.. most guys seem to like it ok but said the pro 5.0 was a step up.And once i saw it on sale from an ebay vendor new for $150 plus shipping..I jumped lol.I adjusted mine some more today and now I need to just get familiar with it being alot tighter.

The original stick was way too tall for me.Having the 4thgen console and being 6'2.The straight cut stick didnt feel right and i put my short Lou's stick back on and that helped even more. Its almost a quick snap of the wrist to switch gears.

I had been using a factory SS Hurst shifter and just switched to a Pro 5.0 with the angled stick. Took it for its first drive last night and I absolutely love it.

My "test" drive turned into a good 1.5hr cruise looking for trouble just to really have an excuse to shift it hard in all gears ..but I didnt find any takers

Well, my Hurst has developed slop, and 1st round of the Stick Shift race Sunday I missed the 1-2 shift - How do you miss a 1-2 shift???
With a sloppy shifter, that's how. A real bummer, because I was in the hunt for points, paired up with the guy just in front of me in points, and he goes to the final against the guy I was tied in points with. Had the tree on him, too. Now I'm back in the also-ran points pack.
MGW being ordered tonight.

The only things I've heard "negative" about them is they are harder to get into 5 & 6, and don't spring back to the middle as well from 5 & 6. But, I guess we'll see.
The last manual tranny car I had before getting the LS1/T56 was a 1980 4-speed 4-cyl Ford Fairmont, which I sold in '99 before getting Berlinetta #1. So, I can't say I'm an expert on manual trannies by any stretch.

Seems to get the job done. A little harder to get into 5th & 6th, but a small price to pay for hitting the gears at the track.
It is a little harsher on the hand until you get used to it - no cushion like the stock shifter.

Using a stock hurst, eBay short stick and hurst T handle. Never miss a gear but third once in a blue moon, probably 3 times on the street in 3 years and never at the track.

Re: Why didnt I get a Pro5.0 long ago
When I bought my 4th gen, I test drove a few. The car I ended up buying had the pro 5.0 in it vs the stock Hurst shifter in one of the other cars. It really is a huge difference! I snagged another pro 5.0 for my 88 Iroc with T-56 because I couldn't imagine driving one with anything else. My 02 has the stick that comes with the pro 5.0 and the 88 has a shortened version. I can't wait to get it put back together to try it. But I for sure love it in my 02
