what cam is best?????
I have a 91 z28, and I purchased a 2001 T/A w/ t56, got all the main pieces to do the swap, getting ready to pull the heads and cam out. I am gonna have the heads reworked, 202's. But my ls knowledge of ls stuff is sooooooo limited, I put a 4th gen rearend in the car w/ 3.73's. I dont want the car to be unmanagable for my wife to drive or if I need to haul _ss for 1000 miles I dont want to be driven crazy, I know if I want the big power you loose alittle of that or do you? any help would be great... thanks

Re: what cam is best?????
^^^ I agree with five7, I called them back in December with a few questions, they were very helpful. I wound up going with the Torquer V2 cam 232/234 .595"/.598" and PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads on my LQ4. My brother has the same cam in his 98 WS6 383 that he built two years ago.

Re: what cam is best?????
For a daily driven car I would go with a TSP 228r. It makes great power down low and does not sacrafice driveability, but it also really depends on many factors. What are your goals for the car, how much does it get driven, what heads do you have. I would assume since you said you have an 01 LS that you have 241s. Maybe look to upgrade to a set of 243s.

228R or tv2 are the most popular street/strip cams that tsp sells and for good reason.I choose the 228r for my lq4.The cams will come alive with good heads and exhaust, still great for just cam only setups aswell and a basic tune.
Id say lean more toward the 228r only because you stated your wife may drive it time to time, its easier on the valve train..good midrange power,if you have 241's then get 243s and have them worked..pickup topend power there and do longtubes. You will ve near 400rwhp on that simple combo.Oh and dont skimp on valve springs/pushrods.

Re: what cam is best?????
thanks for all the reply's. This is my first ls project so I am still learning things about different heads, cams, intakes etc. I would like to be at or around 400rwhp, I am also looking for headers, I see some guys run shorties, are those for f bodies or vette's? I will if I have to but I dont like the idea of spending 800-900 bucks for some of the sets I see, as for exaust I met a guy that wants to do a set of true duals, seen a pic of a white z28 on google that had duals ran side by side all the way till the back and they split off. what did the 243 heads come on?

Mike Jones or Bret Bauer do some good stuff.
A good tune will make or break the driveability. Its all in what you are willing to tolerate really. Some guys like alittle milder stuff and a 224-ish deg cam is big to them. Others run 240 deg cams and daily drive them I personally like bigger cams but for more of a driver, you can keep the cam smaller and get good ported heads to make the power. 220-224 degs is about all you need to make 400whp on a good headed/intake LS1. Should make more actually. Bauer's 224 cam with his ported 243 heads has done 440-450whp.
