LT1 ECM Question

Can someone please verify for me what ECMs I have here?

I am a bit confused cause what I read says the 97 and 94 ECMs are different... I looked up the information shown on the labels you see there and came up with the information written in black sharpie.

These ECMs seem to be exactly alike but I get some conflicting information in my research.

Basically I need to know if they are the same or not and what they are.

Thanks alot for any help.

Re: LT1 ECM Question

OBDI vs OBDII

If you have a 94-95 harness, you have to use a 94-95 PCM. If you have a 96-97 harness, you can use either PCM

For a DIY tune, the 94-95 PCM has the cheapest software. Beyond that, it really doesnt make much difference which is used

Re: LT1 ECM Question

Thanks for the help Pocket!

I have a 97 LT1 motor with a cut harness. I have a complete 94-95 harness (i think 94-95, will bring it home tonight).

This may be a silly question but, can I use the 94-95 ECM/harness with the 96-97 LT1? Forgive me if I didn't completely understand your answer , I can be slow on the uptake at times.

What would you do in this situation?

Re: LT1 ECM Question

Main difference between the harnesses are the 96-97 has a crank sensor. To use the older harness on the new engine leave the sensor unplugged

Re: LT1 ECM Question

Thanks again pocket, I should have probably got that... After looking at the PCM connector diagrams you linked on another post I see everything is basically the same except the crankshaft position sensor, some additional oxygen sensors, an evep vacuum switch and a serial lead, that I assume is for the communications at the dash connector.

This makes things pretty easy I think and I like the 94 - 95 computer route the best. I was thinking about trying to use a 2 computer setup, one for the track, and one for the street, but after seeing what you have to say about it I can accomplish that much simpler by having 2 tune files and load what I need when I need it.
