Re: My 1984 HO Z28 LT1/T-56 Swap Log

I almost forgot, you should put a link to your swap thread on the LTX/LT swap page at https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ltx-swaps.html.

If your thread is a TGO thread just drop a reply with a link to your thread and it will get added to the list so that others who have similar projects can access the info.

And, I'll see what I can do about getting back to my project. Dont think I dont apreciate the kick.

Regards,

You can count on me to give you a bump to get you back working on the project. I'll need someone else that is working the same problems. And once you've turned a wrench, you don't forget it. April 8th is the day my son and I start this adventure. I'm just organizing things right now. What is a TGO thread? I started one on the engine swap forum.

more later

There I go throwing out random acronyms... It is short for ThirdGen.Org.

I saw your swap was moved to the LSx/LTx forum, that's where it should be. If you dont want to follow the link provided here you can there through a 'sticky' link at the top of that forum.

I hope all is well. I'm still hoping you'll get going on your swap. My son and I got our engine out of the 83 Camaro and stripped the interior. We found some plastic pieces under the carpet, too. I guess they built these cars too fast.

Re: My 1984 HO Z28 LT1/T-56 Swap Log

This is a thread that is getting older. My son and I have rebuilt our LT1 to a 383, hotcam, electric water pump and a bunch of other stuff on the engine. It's been a while since we took everything apart and I hope we can remember how to put it all back together. My thread is still ongoing. Come on over and have a look. I don't know how to make a link to it. Maybe some day.

A lot of water has gone over the dam since I did anything on this thread. But here is my status on the fuel set up on our swap. We bought a plastic 2001 Trans Am gas tank which has an electric fuel pump in it. We don't have it installed yet and I'm hoping that what other guys say is true that it fits just like the old tank. The only thing needed is a modification to the filler pipe. I've done some research on the fuel lines and found that the 4th gen cars all use nylon or plastic lines. I will use these lines temporarily as I learned how to cut and crimp them to fittings. Besides this makes it easier to make connections to the fuel rails and the fuel pump on the tank as I can use OEM connections. To protect the lines under the car I'm going to enclose the lines in some electrical conduit. Also I'm cutting a trap door above the tank so it will be easier to service the fuel pump without removing the gas tank. If you plan on using the metal lines in your car, I'd suggest contacting Pure Choice as they might be able to help you with connections and flexible braided lines. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Strick 1 its always good to know multiple options when doing something. I am planning on keeping my stock tank and just cutting the access hole as you were mentioning. From what i have read I can just get a fuel injection sending unit and fuel pump and swap. I will definitely need to contact pure choice it seems like everybody goes through them and are satisfied with them.

The fuel pump question was a problem to figure out. If you are keeping your original tank, you have 2 options (that I know of) if running a fuel injection set up. 1) use an inline fuel pump, or 2) Use areomotive's in tank conversion which is cool, but expensive. I wanted a plastic tank because it doesn't rust and works well with the new gas and alcohol and the fuel pump is already there.

Re: My 1984 HO Z28 LT1/T-56 Swap Log

Strick 1 thanks again for the help. I will make sure I cant put a fuel pump inside my tank as you say. If I cant I don't have a problem putting an inline fuel pump on. My gas tank is still in pretty good condition so I don't want to replace it yet if I don't have to but maybe something for the future.

I'd suggest watching the video on the Aeromotive in tank fuel pump kit. But I found that it is cheaper (and better) to find a plastic tank from a 4th gen Camaro or firebird. I found mine on E-bay for $100. I'll just replace the old fuel pump. One note on inline fuel pumps, you don't have baffling in the tank and when you hit the corners on less than 1/4 tank you can starve the inline pump. And the tend to be noisey.
