Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 5 speed
Getting started with my first lt1 swap. need segestion.
I have a 92 camaro rs 5 speed with a 305 wana be tpi. but I messed up at some point that my engine is over heating. So I am thinking of just buying an lt1.
I am located in smyrna GA, so if any one have lt1 let me know.
I have a regular transmition that came with a car which is a 5 speed.
Everything at this moment works, but it just holds at high apm's and over heats in 10 or 15 min. everything was done correctly.
Also, I have no hp or torque, and it back fires like crazy. It don't want to go fast. if u might have an idea let me know.
So, as soon as i get LT1 engine, since I already changed my wiring harnes, when i installed tpi in 305, with a computer and fuel pump, will I need to replace wiring harnes?
I have read that lt1 fits in 3gen, but it wont read the speed, and will not shift right, in my case I have a five speed, no worries. And I already have an aftermarket speedometer.
I know when I be putting in lt1, I will have to eliminate air conditioning. So the job would be easier. That's fine too.
Also, i have a stuck headers, I was tolled they would feat ok, and my y-pipe goes right into a glass pack. so I dont think I will need another y pipe to match it to lt1, if it wound I can always make it....
is there anything else I am leaving behind? if so plz let me know... this will be my first swap, and I want it to go as smooth as possible

Clean the question up detailing what you have done and tested and post it over in TPI section

Re: Getting started with my first lt1 swap. need segestion.
sorry spelling, remember for latter. I have the computer and the chip tested. and it is good. but cant find out why its over heating. its not a water pump, or any think out side of the engine.
Thank u for the web cites. but I still dont get a lot. since I already changed the wiring, I dont think I will have to do it again. one think I got straight, that my stock headers will work fine, it just i might need to get my Y pipe to fit.
BTW, and how else will I be able to test the chip or the ECU...... I will take a picture of it tomorrow and post it...

Re: Getting started with my first lt1 swap. need segestion.
Well just bought me an LT1 with out trany. so I am hooking I am guessing I will be hooking it up to my stuck 5 speed. And I have modified my y-pipe the red-neck stile... so will find out if that will fit good.....
Will start pulling out my engine hopefully tomorrow and will find out what will happen.
Got an Lt1 with 56k miles for only 1,000$ and all the wires with computer and everything that comes with it. will see if its good to be true.

LT1 is one piece rear main seal, check into compatibility of flywheel/clutch.
You using the optispark setup? Accessories brackets etc?
I hope it all works out but it would be so much easier to plop a Gen 1 350 in it and convert the LT1 intake to use on it.
