Will 96' T-56 work with LQ Engine?...
Will 96' T-56 work with LQ Engine? From what I have heard 96 was an off year for the T-56 and won't work with an LS engine. something about the mainshaft isn't long enough. So I figured since they are one in the same basically it wouldn't work with an LQ engine as well. what do ya'll think?

LT1 style T56's dont work with LSx engines. 93 was the oddball year for them. To convert you need the bellhousing, front plate, input shaft, HTOB, master and clutch pieces from a LS1 T56. 93s are the exception to the above unless you change the gears

IIRC, the '93 T56 is the same externally as the '96 T56, just different ratios inside. They are otherwise interchangeable.
As for bolting up to an LS type engine, I know that at the very least the input shaft is about 1" shorter on the LT1-type T56 as compared to the LS1-type T56. The bellhousing, clutch, flywheel is also different.

You are looking at about 500 bucks to convert without the cost of clutch/hydraulics.
I've had a hard time finding LS 6 speeds out there for decent prices, but I've found plenty of LT 6 speeds, so when the time comes if I cant find an LS unit, I'll buy an LT, rebuild it with stage 2 components and convert it to fit with the LS motor.
Its a process, and the measurements have to be exact especially where the input shaft connects to the main shaft, if the spacing there is off, it can cause premature failure of the gears.
