6.0L fuel pump

I bought an '87 IROC 305 and it needs a fuel pump. I'm planning on doing a very near future 6.0L LQ4 swap but I would like to drive the car just a little with the 305 TPI just to experience it. What fuel pump can i get to fit the factory fuel tank that will work for the 305 as well as support the 6.0L later on down the road? (I just don't want to waste money on 2 different fuel pumps). Would there be anything special I would have to do?

Since the real question is about the 6.0, I moved this to the LTx and LSx subforum.

A Walbro 255 replacement pump will do the job for both engines.

Re: 6.0L fuel pump

I agree, a Walbro 255 is more than sufficient.

Also, will I need anything special like a fuel pressure regulator or am I good?

Re: 6.0L fuel pump

Whats your plans for the 6.0 when you put it in? If you're going to add any power adder get something better than a 255.

for now your reg should be fine or you could get an adjustable one.

Re: 6.0L fuel pump

Plannin on forged internals, heads, Cam. Maybe at some point I'll boost it or throw the bottle to it. But that would be a long ways down the road.

The TPI reg will be fine with the 255.

For the 6.0, you will need a means to regulate the pressure. Perhaps the simplest is to use a Vette filter, which has the return relief valve built into it. Or, get an adjustable return-type reg. Or, get a complete 4th gen LS1 tank.

Re: 6.0L fuel pump

But that's all something I can do later right? When I actually put in the 6.0

Right. The pump alone will be fine now.

When you do the 6.0, then you'll have to do something about pressure regulation. That's why I said, "For the 6.0...".

Re: 6.0L fuel pump

Try a Walbro GSS340 255lph pump. Thats what I went with.

Unfortunately, even the best pumps will still drop off volume as pressure increases. For example, the very popular Walbro 255 lph intank pump (GSS-307) supplies 255 lph at 40 psi, but drops to below 200 lph by 70 psi, and will go below 160 lph by 100 psi. At the same time, Walbro also offers another 255 lph intake pump what will work much better at the higher pressures, the GSS-340.

The GSS307 and GSS340 are 'Stang pumps. I've had the GCA758-2 on my Summit wish list, which is a TPI 255 lph TPI replacement pump kit. Wonder what the pump in that kit is rated at at pressure.

Re: 6.0L fuel pump

Since the 'stang and our TPI were 39 psi, but the LSx is 58 psi, I never even considered the GSS307 as viable to survive at 58 psi. I already got a couple of GSS340 pumps for my 2 LSx blocks.
The GSS340 will surely feed the 407.5-calculated-horses build I have in mind for the LM7.
