Right on!! I'll post as much information on this thread as I can, to try to help other swappers.

I can't wait to get my new fuel lines, my posi, my master install kit for the rear, etc. Getting nice new parts in the mail is better than Christmas was, when I was a kid.

Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

Fuel line questions guys!

1. Would this work?

I would run a female 6 AN on the fuel line to one of these on the fuel filter:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RU...N=120%20302857

I think this would be correct, for the fuel filter side thread size

2. Would that hard line near the fuel tank fit right into the return line, then I would clamp it tight, or would I have to couple a short piece of smaller diameter line to the fuel line?

Or I could just bend the stock hard lines and point them toward the back of the engine and use the Purechoice kit. I don't want the hard lines in the engine bay anymore.

Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

I'll probably end up just bending the hard lines with a tube bender and making them a little less visible/protruding in the engine bay, and I'll connect the Purechoice lines to them. This is probably the cheapest way to go, and it will work well.

I'll probably do a couple of 180 and 90 degree bends in them, wherever I need to, for it to look nice and work properly.

I'm replacing the two O-rings, also.

Got my fittings for the Wilwood proportioning valve install, since I'm putting a disc braked rear in soon. I'm waiting for the prop valve. I'll post pics of the valve and fittings soon.

See if this helps

The return line is 5/16" on the stock sender while AN6 is 3/8". The return side has very low pressure (<2psi peak) and wont leak if you double clamp it. If you must have a perfect seal then the AN6 compression fittings work great

Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

Hey thanks Pocket. That's a nice diagram.

Now I'm thinking I'll see how much it would cost to have Purechoice make me a kit with longer fuel lines that go back to the filter with a 6 AN fitting and the return line without a fitting. Or I'll see if I can make my own using the fittings from the picture.

The cheapest way to go would be to just connect the Purechoice kit to the stock hard lines, but I want to figure out a way to change the location of the ends of the stock hard lines, so they're out of the way and not so visible.

Just noticed your thread. I did pretty much the same swap a few years ago. Except it was an LT-1 from a wrecked corvette....Lots of work involved but the results were great! My 305 TPi engine ended up in a buddy of mine's 57 chevy. He loves it and gets good milage too! Lots of good info on this forum, and lots of guys who know what they are doing.......i would NOT have attempted it except for all the help i got on here! Good luck!

Thanks! How's it running?

I'm still kicking around the fuel line options, in my mind, and it's been raining here for the past 4 days, so I haven't done much on my car, but it'll get done soon enough.

Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

Hotrodin, I miss my 87 IROC (see pic below). She was beautiful.

Ok here is what I am doing for my fuel lines, since I do not want the hard lines in my engine bay any longer.

Purechoice kit 6010 with two new fittings that go on the hard lines, so I can attach the braided lines to the hard lines. I am going to cut the hard lines back far enough so that the braided lines run smoothly up the firewall and then to the LT1. The nice thing is that the fittings require only a 45 degree flare and no O-Rings, according to Gary at Purechoice. The other nice thing is that the kit is still the same price, at $99.95, even with the two extra fittings for the hard lines.

Sweet!! Problem solved.

They also sell a good Made in the USA flaring kit for $50.00 that can flare mild steel lines, so I can do good flares on my brake lines and fuel lines all with the same kit. Perfect!!

I am a happy guy now.

Update!!

Yesterday, I re-installed the steering box/linkage, headlight and foglight harnesses (still have to button them to the frame), and the windshield wiper motor (with new Federal Mogul washer fluid motor) and wiper fluid reservoir.

Gonna start installing the fuel lines and brake lines/Wilwood adj. prop. valve with the 4th gen master cylinder, as soon as I get my flaring tool kit and fuel lines from Purechoice. I'm ordering those today!!

I'm also buying an AC delete box from a member here--it's a factory delete box, and it's way cheaper than an aftermarket one.

I am pleased that the wiper fluid reservoir cleaned up so nicely. The coolant reservoir is beyond help. I'm going to get a new one from Hawk's or somewhere.

(that line going across the engine bay is the speedo cable--darn thing is always kinda in my way, but I haven't felt like taking it out).

Re: Update!!

Purechoice fuel line kit #6010 ordered. $99.95 Yay!!
Flaring kit from Purechoice #11275 ordered. $55.00 Yay!! (it can flare steel lines and is made in the USA).

The Purechoice LT1 swap kit has the LT1/GM style push-on fittings for the fuel rail connections and screw on fittings on the other side. I'm cutting the hard lines back and using the Purechoice fittings, which will require a 45 degree flare on each hard line. Nice and simple. Sweet....no more fuel lines in the middle of the engine bay!!

Also, got my Wilwood prop. valve yesterday. Here is a pic of it and the fittings I got from Napa, to do the install. Napa had ALL of the fittings required for the install. Yay!!

I might later on. I'm keeping the tray and the reservoir from the donor. Right now I just want to get the sucker up and running, unless I decide to go further with the engine, then it will be a while because of costs.

Re: Update!!

OK Pocket...you can probably answer this: Would the Ford 24 blue top injectors be enough for the Crane 227 cam?

I don't think the stock injectors on the LT1 will flow enough for this cam, but I could be wrong. I may just build a 383. We shall see.

Im not too knowledgeable about performance upgrades. Id say putting 24lb injectors in place of stock 24lb injectors is pointless. That being said, I havent heard of anyone requiring new injectors for just a cam

My lack of research on the LT1 fuel injectors has been exploited Crane/Compucam claims that the 227 cam doesn't "mess" with the stock computer, so maybe that means the stock fuel injectors will be adequate, too.

Cool! Are you doing a swap soon?

So far so good...it's coming along pretty smoothly and quickly. The biggest challenge is where to put the donor car, while I'm pulling the engine and stuff. The yard wants to tow it to my house immediately, after I pay them the balance on the car, so I've held off on it.

I don't have a garage here, like I did in Arizona, and my 86 is already taking up the flat spot near my house.

I'll figure something out here.

Cam Specs:

Stock LT1---200/207 .447/.459 117 LSA
Crane 227--210/224 .479 /.518 112 LSA

Yep the nickname is "baby cam" for this cam.

BUT the low and midrange power and all around performance of this cam are praised, over the stock cam, and guys have run in the 12's and 11's with this camshaft and surrounding mods.

I've read that this cam is specifically designed for the stock LT1 heads' exhaust flow/intake flow ratio, and it performs quite well, and yes it's a tame grind.

I'm getting my PCM tuned and optimized around the cam and some other specs on my car, so it should work out well for me.

I'm sure I'll be happy with it, based on what other guys have said about it. I haven't read anything about anyone being disappointed with the 227.

The kinda cool thing is that the 227 doesn't have a lumpy idle or anything, so it's pretty much a sleeper cam.

By the way, I got your form for my wiring harness. Thank you.

Are the windshield wiper and fluid motor plugs probably on the mfi harness I bought? I worry about small things too much.

OK, so they should be in the mfi harness I bought from a guy on here. I'll want those.

Ya know--I just realized that all I have to do is go look at the darn harness, since it's in a box in my basement. Duh

Lots on my mind lately--craziness. I'm trying to decide if I am going to go with a S/P accessory relocator kit (it sure is nice) or the one from Speed Inc. I definitely hate how the stock setup is on the LT1, with the alternator so high up.

I especially like how the S/P kit puts the power steering pump closer to the steering box.

Picture "G" on page 70 of this pdf site: http://www.hotrodlane.cc/2010%20PDF%...g2010main.html

Or I could go the cheaper route ($400.00) and do it like this with the kit from Speed Inc.

HUGE price difference between the relocation kit from Speed Inc. and the kit with all the goodies from Street and Performance--about $500.00.

I decided to use the 4th Gen washer fluid reservoir. Check it out:

It fit in there like O.J. Simpson's Isotoners, though.

Thanks bro.....yeah I'm not too much of a Camaro noob anymore. Even though I've been wrenching on cars and fixing my own cars for 22 years, there is always something new to be learned every day or some unanswered question.

This picture is of an LT1 from Speed Inc. with their accessory relocation kit on it. My LT1 is still in the donor and does not look this nice at all, but it will soon. I am thinking I'll go with this kit.

I'll figure something out here.

yeah hopefully gettin my lt1 soon and starting this summer. I hope it goes as smooth as yours bro, doesnt look like youve had too many problems so far.

Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

Nope no problems really...just a little brain strain on figuring out the fuel lines, power steering reservoir and lines and stuff like that. It seems to be going pretty smoothly, and if only I could get the salvage yard to tow my 4th gen to my house, that would be great!! They keep telling me "tomorow tomorrow tomorrow" then tomorrow comes and they can't do it for me.

They told me they tow the car to my house and then tow it away when I'm ready, since I bought the car from them.

I wanna get that LT1 out and on a stand!!!

Update on Swap! Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

Finally got my 4th gen towed to my house tonight. The LT1/4L60e are almost ready to be yanked...just need to unbolt the crossmember and engine mount bolts, and it's ready

I can't wait to make it all clean and sparkly.

I'm glad, too!!

Cleaning an engine isn't too bad...it depends on what kind of mood you're in when you start the cleaning. It will look nice, for sure, when I'm done with it. I can't wait to do the relocation kit and put on nicer valve covers and stuff.

I'll probably wait until the engine is in and running, then I'll do the "small" stuff later.

Cleaning isnt bad

Remove the engine, remove any water sensitive items (Opti, MAF etc), soak it in degreaser, pressure washer. Repeat until it looks brand new

Got my fuel lines, fittings, and flaring tool kit from Purechoice today.

In the middle are the quick connect LT1 fittings, then the lower fittings go onto my cut and flared stock hard lines. The fittings require a 45 degree flare on the hard lines.

Don't you love getting shiny new parts?

I tucked the 4th gen battery tray/coolant reservoir in there as much as possible--I still have to clean it and fasten it in there. Dang my engine bay got dirty fast from the rain and blowing dust.

Hey man, I've been following your thread and it looks great. Your car should make a decent amount over 300 rwhp. I'm currently building a 84 formula with a lt1 t 56 combo. I went with the cc503 cam and a le2 head and intake package and will be looking at 400rwhp. You car looks great and should run high 12s on the track.

Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

Thank you. I'm glad you like my thread. I look forward to seeing the difference in performance, over my old 305 TPI.

I decided I'm going to go with a custom cam grind from Ultradyne, most likely, either them or AI. It'll be a bump up from the Crane 227. It'll be better than an off the shelf cam, at least. I'll want a grind that still gives me nice low and mid torque on the stock non ported heads.

I'll go with AI's heads later on. Those are some awesome heads.

The LE2's are way nice, too.

I finally got the darn harness out today after taking out the crossmember and dropping the tranny a bit and loosening that tiny screw that holds that one loom onto the 4L60e. All I have to do now is loosen the engine mounts, and she's out. Oh, and I need a darn engine hoist, too. That will help just a little.

I wanted to get the harness out ASAP, so I can ship it to Pocket, and he can get started on mating it with a third gen harness and stuff.

I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to start it up with the opti and then swap the LTCC ignition into it, to see if I notice a difference, or if I'm just going to put the LTCC in it, before her first start. I'll decide soon, hopefully.

Always the little things that throw a wrench into an otherwise smooth process. Good that you got it out, it'd been fighting you for quite a while

Re: First Ever V-8 swap: LT1/4L60e Swap Begins!!

Hey Pocket Yeah, it was a pain in my butt for a while. The ground at the yard where the 97 sat was terrible and all chunky and hurt like crazy to lie down on. I hated working on it there. I finally got the harness out, and the gravel the car sits on now, at my house, is actually more comfortable than the chunky dirt ground at the yard.

Question: Would you like me to clean the harnesses as much as possible before I ship them to you?

Swap Update: I got my Hotchkis panhard rod and Zoops power steering reservoir yesterday, with fittings.

-Today, I got the battery tray/coolant reservoir hole on the frame threaded (8 X 1.25), and it works perfectly and holds that sucker in nice and snug. I just have to get a longer bolt for the battery hold-down piece. I'm gonna tack weld a nut underneath there for easier removal of the battery.
-I also cut all my brake lines for the Wilwood PV install.

My power steering reservoir. No panhard pic...we all know what those look like.

You dont need to. Any nasty loom goes in the trash along with all the oil soaked wire. Ive got so many connectors I replace any suspect just as a precaution

Thanks Pocket. You are, indeed, the man.

I will get those harnesses out to you, with the information sheet, as soon as possible. My schedule has been quite busy lately, plus I am broke right now.

I'll be in touch.

I'm irritated because I bought some Energy engine mounts from a guy on here, and I paid $45.00 shipped for them, and I got the box, and there was ONE mount in the box. He has ignored my last few emails, too. I later found out he was banned from this website.

That's not cool.

Be glad it was only $45. My last sour encounter like that was $250 for a stall, several others were taken for quite a bit more

If you payed with a CC, try a charge back

Hey Pocket. How's it going? That's really crappy that someone did that to you. I just HATE that!! Was it a guy on here? It's the first time anyone's done that to me, and it's not a good feeling. I am glad that it was a small amount, at least. I paid with PayPal and requested half my money back and emailed the guy, with no response. Oh well. I'll just order another mount from Summit.

On a happier note, I got my Hedman headers today. Yay!! They're just shorties, but they're better than the manifolds, plus I got a good deal on them, especially being that they're coated. I think they'll look great in my engine bay.

If a deal goes sour dont EVERY settle for less than what you're owed. You payed good hard money for a product and you expect nothing less. He sent less than what he was advertising so he can either send the other half or the whole refund. Usually scumbag like that empty their PP accounts and sever the bank account line so when you do get stiffed you will win the PP dispute but they cant award anything to you. A CC chargeback is a buyer protection element thats a bit more customer friendly. It forcibly draws the funds back from PP who then sends it to their collection agency and something actually gets done about the scumbag since they lost money

Anyways

Coated headers always look badass in a clean engine bay. You will like them

Yeah I think those headers will stand out nicely enough--much nicer than my other VHT black ones. I mainly got them because the D port flanges will match the LT1 heads better--I'm picky sometimes

As far as scammers.....I wish I could make them feel how we feel, after they've scammed us. Actually, I wish I could make them feel WORSE. Smacking them in the jaw would be fun, too, but oh well. I guess if the S.E.A.L.S can't even punch a terrorist, we Marines can't punch scammers.
