New oil pan deal!

You can try to buy a used '98-'02 Z28 oil pan, or you can go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and search part number 19212593, and it includes a better pan, the dipstick with tube, the windage tray, the pump tube / screen, gaskets and bolts, all new, all for $125.80. IDK if it includes this, but the magnetic drain plug is 24241872, for $13.01

Re: New oil pan deal!

That kit uses the H3 pan... it hangs 2" lower than the f-body pan, which means that it'll be the lowest part of your car... not good.

Re: New oil pan deal!

Everything is more compact than the Vette pan... the vette pan is the "batwing" design that's useless in almost every swap there is.

Do some digging on ls1tech with that part number... there is plenty of discussion about it. It's an H3 pan, and sticks down 2" more than the f-body pan.

Re: New oil pan deal!

This is why things get confusing . You look at that info and it talks about a Vette pan and yes the do have the kickouts on the side . And to put them in an F-body you have to clearence the K-member IIRC . They also say it is more compact than a Vette pan so you would think it is going to fit better . No ! Because you say it is the H-3 pan and we all know the truck pans will not work on F-body cars at all . I wonder why they say it is more compact than the Vette pan if it is a H-3 pan ?

Re: New oil pan deal!

It didn't look that deep in the catalog. And the '05 'vette LS2 pan isn't batwing like the '97-'04 'vette LS1 pans were.
I'm ordering this kit for my other LSx swap, but I'll have the chance to try it in my '84 'bird.

Re: New oil pan deal!

Let us know how it does because my little brother found me a 6.0 complete from top to bottom with wireing and computer for a $100 if his buddy still has it it's mine . IIRC he said it was a 2002 ? 2500 truck that was recked .

Re: New oil pan deal!

It's not as deep as the regular truck pan, but it's still deeper than the f-body pan. GM markets this as their "swap" pan because it can be installed almost anywhere a conventional SBC went without a modification to the k-member, unlike the f-body pan. In an older hot rod, it's height probably isn't an issue anyway. Do a search on here... I think somebody posted pics of this pan in a thirdgen. I know for sure that there are a bunch of posts on ls1tech that show this pan next to a truck pan and next to an f-body pan. It's worth your time to check those posts to be sure that this pan will do what you need.

You jumping on such a sweet deal should have nothing to do with this thread. You've found a virtual steal, buy it! Even if you don't use it yourself, you can re-sell it for hundreds more, turning a big fat profit.

Re: New oil pan deal!

I too had briefly looked at this kit before, but ended up going the tried and true fbody pan. These cars sit low enough as-is, didn't want to chance it and found someone locally who was letting one go for a song.
