89 305TPI to 96 Lt1 Swap List
Hey all, I finally purchased a Lt1 Motor from a local junk yard. They are delivering the Engine, with Wiring Accessories and Computer all intake. I need to develop a list of Parts that will be required for the transition so I can provide it to my mechanic. I have searched the forums and have reviewed a few good posts, but nothing that is really cut and dry. If you know of one, please provide me a link.
A few other facts on the swap:
I am keeping my 700R4 Auto Tranny
I don't care about keeping the A/C
Will I need the MAF sensor from the LT1?
Will I need an aftermarket wiring kit?
Will my Hooker headers fit and function properly?
Will I require a new Fuel Pump?
How is the VATS Key Security circumvented?
Engine is from a 96 Firebird Trans Am, being swapped into a 89 Formula Firebird 305TPI/Auto.
Again any tips and facts is very much appreciated.

Why bother with the 700R4? You need the 93 TB, 93 TV cable, manual tune, VSS interface etc. 4L60E or T56 would be worlds easier
AC is easy to delete in the wiring. Remove the pulley with a delete unit
You need a MAF from a similar vehicle. Either the stock 4th gen/B-body unit etc
No need to go aftermarket on the wiring if a harness already comes with the engine. Read up on the LT1 and LS1 wiring threads to see what is required for a minimal or complete overhaul of the engine harness
As long as your hookers are 1 5/8" or larger primaries, they will fit fine
LTx and TPI operate at the same pressure. Most people swap in a new pump for peace of mind, but its not required like for a LSx swap
VATS must be tuned out of the new PCM. No getting around that. 3rd gen VATS seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes its ok with the new PCM, other times the starter relay must be bypassed. The first time you hit the key you will know if it needs to be bypassed or not

Do the wiring yourself and save some money. Once your start figuring out what wires go to what it becomes pretty clear. I didn't think I was going to be able to do mine but once I sat down with the lt1 harness and my cars harness. I figured it out in a couple days. Try lt1swap.com for some good info on the pinouts of the wires.

93TB? Are you talking about a 4th Gen Throttle Body?
Whats the point in upgrading the tranny and spending more money?
To Delete AC a pulley with AC Compressor Bypass is required, correct?
I got the MAF sensor from the same vehicle I got the car from today for free

Read the stickys before beginning
Why bother with the 700R4? Because that is what is in the Car and it has no problems.

93 LT1 throttle body is required to run a TV style trans
Once you sell the 700R4, buy a 4L60E or whatever you want. Then compare the cost of making the 700R4 work for you. Itll be cheaper in the long run
Yes, the AC delete pulley is all you need

Re: 89 305TPI to 96 Lt1 Swap List
Assumming I can get the 4L60E that was on the Lt1 engine I had before, what else would be required to make the swap happen. Also, I assum I would get the Torgue Convertor in the Tranny purchase.
