Distance back for the T56 in the LSx swap
Well, i am debating abandoning my BBC swap, if i can sell the T56 and get a LS T56, i migth sell all the BBC stuff and do a 5.3,LS1,6.0 swap. Carbed with the MSD controlling the coils.
I need to know, is the LS going to set my T56 back much further than the LT1 T56 behind my SBC?

Keep the BBC swap going if you don't plan on running EFI on the LSX swap...I'm just sayin'...

I second the keeping the bbc project. Having all those extra cubes is a huge advantage IMO. Im actually debating on tossing my ls1 build and going BBC, but i already have a ls1 block and crank. Why are you thinking about swapping if i may inquire?

Re: Distance back for the T56 in the LSx swap
Well, i am wanting my hard top running. I dished out so much money for the suspension and i finally got a 12 bolt that will handle power, i want the damn thing running. To do the BBC swap i am running out of cash, so i will have to cut corners and: Use oval port heads instead of the rectangles i wanted to use, run a flat tappet cam instead of the roller i wanted to use, i wont have to spend 300$+ on a set of lifters, the LS doesnt need much but a cam and port the heads with the edelbrock victor intake and MSD box.
Not to mention, headers will fit easier and be easier to find as well as exhaust routing.
It will simply happen faster
Why? What legitimate reason do you guys have to back this up?

2 - The carb won't be any more efficient. If all you want is a 1/4-mile car, then I guess you can just tune the carb for WOT & be happy - but if you have any street time planned, you'll very likely be a lot happier with EFI. Also - the feedback that you get from being able to datalog gives you MUCH better information than even using a wideband O2.
Good luck though, whichever route you go...

True, but in the end, will it really be what you want is what you have to ask yourself. If my ls1 block cant be saved (spun main left a knick on the saddle) im not sure which way i would go. Very true on the Ls needing just a cam and some head work and they make stout numbers with less cubes. You can pick up a 5.3 with ~100k on it from lkq for under 500 complete from intake to pan. Ive personally seen running ls1's go for 1200+ around here so i would be more inclined to get a 5.3 and stuff a bit more goodies in it for the money.
But back on topic, With setback adapters the trans mount should be within an inch or so of where it is right now.
On the injection topic, ive seen some fast LsX engines running carbs, Its been proven that a carb can produce more peak HP then injection in most cases. IMO I would have Pat G from ls1 tech spec you a custom cam on eps lobes thats tailored to a carbed engine.

1 - The carb won't be any cheaper once you factor in the cost of the intake manifold, the MSD controller box, etc.
2 - The carb won't be any more efficient. Dont know who does the carb work in your area but you make them seem like a POS nightmare.
The 6.0 my buddy and i built with a 650 carn, Torqer V2 cam, heads ported by me in a malibut with 3.42 gears and a TH350 with a 3200 stall went 7.3 in the 1/8th at 97 MPH. That was a motor we just threw together and hee drives it daily with the carb and it is perfect.

Tryig to see if i will have to ditch the Spohn trans cross member i have for the LT1 setup as well. 1 inch is ok i guess, if i have a aftermarket shifter that is. My thumb gets caught between my shifter and the shifter plate on my T top car with a LT1 T56, stock base with a short stick. So i guess with my welder and some measuring i can make a stock base work still. I dont mind how the feel VS spending 150+ on a shifter.
As for Patric on tech, i am a moderator there so i am sure he will hook me up the best he can if i go that route.
I was thinking a MS4 if i get a 6.0.
