LT1 with 700R4 - Digital Dakota box supply the correct VSS signal to the PCM?

I have an engine swap I've done using an LT1 and a 700R4. I'm using a 16188051 PCM, from a caprice. I've also got a 1995 Firebird dash/cluster. As I understand it, the PCM wants a 17 pulse per driveshaft revolution signal. From what I've read, there is a formula that takes your wheel size and rear gear ratio and comes out with a number to convert that PPR to PPM. Around 51,000 PPM seems typical, so lets talk with this number.

Has anyone used the Digital Dakota box (SGI-5) to produce such a signal to the PCM? I want to know if I can satisfy the PCM using this box.. I have one, and irght now I have it converting the 700R4 VSS output to 4000PPM and driving the speedometer correctly.

Has anyone done this before, and know if it works correctly? I've been researching all day but can't find a straight answer... All I can find is mention of swapping the reluctor ring out of a 4l60E and into a 700R4 VSS. But if I can jsut convert the signal that would be a lot easier for me. Plus, I already have the box anyway...

Can anyone offer any help or knowledge on this?

I don't know the formula but I can tell you a couple things I do know.

The 700R4 uses different speedo gears depending on what you have for rear axle gear ratio. So, you'll need to know what speedo gears you have.

Your LT1 pcm may be looking for a 40 pulse signal. Manuals and auto LT1 cars used different signals. Can't remember which had the 17 pulse or which had the 40 pulse.

Maybe get ahold of Dakota Digital Tech support. Send them an email.
