I've heard it discussed on a trifive forum. H8 pan is supposed to be the cat's meow (at least for a trifive LSx swap).

GM has a "kit" for the pan, p/n 19212593. $131.04 from gmpartsdirect.com (plus their king's ransom shipping). "P/N 19212593 was intended to be a universal oil pan that will fit most applications. Its a little more compact than a Corvette style pan. It fits all Gen III and IV engines and includes the oil pan, gasket, indicator tube and indicator, pickup tube and crankshaft oil deflector."

It'll stick down more than the f-body pan (haven't looked to see what affect that would have in a 3rd gen). But, it would completely eliminate K-member interference issues.

you know, I was looking at this in the gm performance parts book and they call it a "Muscle car oil pan kit" and I was sitting there trying to figure what that pan was. So it's an LH8 pan? The LH8 is considered the hummer pan correct? I bet this kit will save some clearance for the guys who are running a stock k-member that's for sure.

I looked into the LH8 pan for my swap. The sump on the Fbody pan is 5" deep, whereas the LH8 sump is 7.5" deep. For comparison, the 4.8/5.3/6.0 truck oil pans are 8.25" deep. There's only .75" difference between the truck pan and the LH8 pan. The LH8 pan might be ok for people with non-lowered cars, but I wouldn't use it.

F-body LS1 pan and its practically level with the bottom of the K-member. I've scraped my long truck oil filter a few times... Any lower pan would have been disaster. Too bad as another option would be schweet but at least we know for other cars this is an option

X2 Here are some dimensions of said pans as well as others. I don't know of any 3rd gen that could get away with the "muscle car oil pan". Unless it's got a lift kit. I just think they have a buttload of them lying around and are trying to unload them

not trying to raise the dead here, but I got curious recently too, especially seeing as this thing is a lot cheaper than an F-body pan and would appear to reduce the need for chopping the k-member for clearance.

My question is a bit different, but similar lines. What are people using for mounts? I'm wondering if different mounts raise the engine up more than others where ground clearance may not be as much an issue

Clearensing the K-member for the fbody pan is cheaper. I had a guy do it for me and it cost me $75.

Right now I'm completely pan-less

the previous owner kept the Firebird pan he had on this block, so I'm trying to make as educated of an attack at this as possible. Fbody plans seem to go for $250+, where as the LH8 can be found for around $100 less

Man thats expensive for a pan. Did you look into fabricated ones ?.

Even though the hummer pan has a good price, not good for clearence.

Keep looking for a better option

You can always cut the bottom off the LH8 pan and raise it up a little. Lots of guys doing the swap to first gens and Nova's have done this.

I have an LQ4 truck pan. I'm told it won't fit my trifive. But, the LH8 pan would.

I would keep looking around. I picked up my fbody pan with pickup tube and windage tray for $130.
