Mac mid lengths?

I heard from a friend of mine that supposedly Mac mid length '98-'02 headers will fit on a 3rd gen with an LSX swap. Is this true? If so, that would be an answer to prayers, as they are much less expensive than the only other obvious option, Hawks longtube swap headers. Has anyone tried to use the Macs on their swap?

Re: Mac mid lengths?

i've had macs on a few diff f-bodys. the headers are ok, but every set i've had they rust pretty bad, even the coated ones. I guess if they fit the third gen, it will be a nice $$$ savings over the hawks headers.

Re: Mac mid lengths?

I wouldn't mind re-coating them myself, or paying someone $100 to do it, because I'd still come out ahead of the game because they are so cheap.

Has anyone tried it?

Re: Mac mid lengths?

Part number for them? I am very interested in these as well. Though I have heard the 2002 manifolds flow just as good as shorties.

2002 manifolds don't flow as good as shorties, it's close, but not the same, and shorties don't flow as good as mids, so mids > manifolds.

Re: Mac mid lengths?

It's certainly possible, just have to take the chance. Seems like alot of them won't because they flare out into places - that on a third gen, would be the "Frame". I went with edelbrock shorty LS1 headers. They were a stock replacement, so they would even connect directly to a Y pipe made for an LSX swap with manifolds.

Re: Mac mid lengths?

They Can be fit. But they wont fit without modification.

A guy i know who did the same swap as us about 4 years ago said they go into the a-arm mounts, and have to be either heated and bent inwards, or cut and re-shaped.
