Wow - great horsepower, you're gonna have fun with that! That torque number blows my mind though, is the converter really eating all of that???
Should run like a raped ape though!

Re: 408 hit the dyno!
peak was at 7100. im going to play with shifting it 73-7500 and see where it runs best.
yes. the converter plays a toll on the dyno, i dont know why.
my old cammed 6.0 only put down like 370 something, and i knew it was higher.
buddy had a 346 that only did 330 torque, but it ran low 11's.
nature of the beast.
motor only has 100 miles. the dyno pulls were the 1st to go past 6000 rpms. should pick up another 10 or so hp after some milage.

Re: 408 hit the dyno!
That converter might be eating up some dyno numbers....but its going to rip the asphalt right off the street and rubber off the tires!!!
Good numbers...Ide be happy with that from a NA street car.
Shifting at 7000+ is a real hoot isnt it? Going from a 5500rpm TOPS 305TPI motor to my motor now was a real learning curve. 7k sounds scary when you arent used to it. haha
Good luck with her!

i wanted to get it on the dyno becuause i thought i had a valvetrain issue. felt like it was stalling out in the upper rpms.
7500 is a long way past 6900. looks like everything is stable, car is spot on with no miss, rattle, or strange noises. felt good in the seat on the dyno as well. very smooth, except for a driveshaft vibration ive had that will never go away. had it balanced 2 times. bout to start over just to see if its really the problem. nothing major, just annoying on the highway at 80 with the 3 spd buzzing 4K.
hope to get it to the track tonight.

Re: 408 hit the dyno!
good question. i had most of the parts to start the build and really didnt have the funding to go solid roller.
i know its going to pick me up a good solid 15-20. it will come later in life.
springs, lifters, pushrods, cam, etc.... its going to be 12-1500 in hard parts to get that rolling.
im going to port my intake before anything else. with a heat gun, the outer 4 cylinders are 2-250 degrees hotter than the center.
several guys have told me im looking at 25-30 by porting the intake.

Re: 408 hit the dyno!
thats really not high rpm, 9k, now thats hi rpm
i use to turn my previous engine 7200 rpm. but i had built my engine with proper clearances, oil pump volume and psi, etc. im sure his is equally prepared.
i have taken a stock ls1 engine into the 10's with cam, all supporting bolt ons. turning 6800 rpm.
im building the one for my 3rd gen to turn 7500rpm
a solid roller is not really needed with lsx engines, if i went solid roller it would have be a 13:1 scr with 350-370cfm heads and over 427ci, using a lsx block or such.

Very nice.
Our 4th gen Camaro (which has a bored out LT1 Corvette engine from a '95 vette) ran about 508 hp on the dyno, and it's just the engine and the bore. Nothing else added yet. Not even an exhaust. Oh, and it's automatic, with t-tops. :P

You guys DO know about camera filters, right?
(Not saying that that's where the color comes from, but there are a LOT of tricks that can be used to enhance otherwise-ordinary photos...)

Yeah there's a ton of power to be had from boring engines! That and the fact that its a corvette LT1 and not and f-body LT1 must be adding to the power output. I'm sure thats at the wheels too... haha but seriously why would you even post such pointlessly obvious bs around here?

Re: 408 hit the dyno!
stage20, do you have a build thread you could link me to? I will try looking as well incase. I am in planning on putting a 408/t56 in my 92 camaro, and was hoping you had a build thread that could help explain some of the different things it takes to swap a 408 vs. just a ls1.
thats one impressive beast. congrats!

the 408 bolts in no different than an ls1. just about all parts interchange one way or the other.
if you have any questions, or need a specific picture, id be glad to help.
