LS1 Accesory Drive

Hey everyone,

The motor I bought for my swap is a '99 LS1, and it came with no accessories other than a water pump. I managed to get a tensioner, balancer, and alternator scrounged up, but I don't know what pieces I need to complete the accessories. I know I need a P/S pump, but what other brackets and idler pullies are involved? I cant seem to find a decent picture of the front of an LS1 w/o AC, so I dont know how everything is routed. On AC cars I have seen an axtra 2 pullies below the w/p on the passenger side, and there is also another idler on the drivers side below the P/S pump. GAH! Any help would be appreciated! It's a pain trying to piece together things from a motor that's been robbed of pretty much everything except the long block.

Fbodies in yards around here are very rare, thus I am trying to buy the needed pieces via LS1Tech and eBay :P

Here ya go fellow Canuck. You can buy the Alternator / Power steering bracket from Ebay. I think the seller is "Nooks and Tranny". If you do a search for "ls1 accessories" on ls1tech, youre gonna get every GM part numbers, including bolts. I hope this helps!

Re: LS1 Accesory Drive

So far all canadian

Mitch,

For the alternator, there is a V shaped bracket, and a stick shaped bracket that bolts to the side of the block. on the alternator bracket theres a stud for an idler pulley.Alternator bracket has 3 bolts. 1 goes bracket to block, 2 go through the bracket and alternator and thread into the block. Then an extra for the idler

The power steering pump has a rear bracket, with a stud shaped bit sticking forward and U bracket to hold the pump onto it. 3 bolts IIRC

The waterpump is simple, just the tensioner

Pulley is..the pulley haha.

A/C: Theres 2 different kinds, i checked on a vette at work today, they have the same setup as the f-bodys. The compressor bolts into a bracket, it has its own belt goove on the pulley. There is 1 small idler pulley, and 1 tensioner pulley. Then the 2 larger ones, one the A/c clutch, other the crank pulley.

Hope this clears it all up.

Sheldon

Spike-Z that is a perfect picture, just what I am looking for! Thanks.

Sheldon, that tensioner I got from you, is it off a truck or something? It doesn't seem to fit right unless I am putting it on completely wrong :P (2 holes line up, but there is a third that just goes nowhere)

Sorry, thought you knew that. I knew what Sheldon was talking about and was nodding up & down as I read his description.

Im not 100%. Ill dig around tonight, i know i put a billet tensioner on my motor, so i took my old one off (an f-body waterpump)

Thought that was the one i pulled off. Ill let you know what i come up with.

Re: LS1 Accesory Drive

Dont worry about it Sheldon, I think it will be fine, from what I can tell, the fbody tensioner only has 2 bolts, this one has 3, but two of the three mount the same way anyways. I think it will be fine.
