cts-v swap?

i found a 2005 cts-5 that was totaled from the rear end. the engine and tranny are fine. he wants 3 grand for the car and i want the drive train for my 87 formula. only problem is i dont know what type of tranny the cts-v uses i know the engine is an ls6 so im guessing t56 but if im wrong it would be a waste. anyone know what kind of tranny back the 05 cts-v? also if it is a t56 what is a good set of headers to fit the lsx into a thirdgen?

if it is a manual car then it has the t56, automatic then its a 4L65 or 4L80. im not positive on the automatics, maybe someone who knows more about them will chime in. as for the headers, you have three choices. Fourth gen manifolds, hawks longtubes, or custom. the manifolds can be had for pretty cheap, especially if u get them used. the hawks longtubes are about 800, and custom are gonna be the same or more. personally im going with stock manifold as they flow pretty darn good for stockers, and i cant justify spending more on the headers than on my engine itself

Re: cts-v swap?

V's are all t56. The end of the tranny isnt good for our swaps, I think you will need an f-body tranny tail. Engine is an LS2 if its an 05.

Re: cts-v swap?

A quick google/ebay search showed it has the tremec T56. It is not in the rear like corvettes and should swap in fine

There were 2 manual trans used in CTS-V's, the tremec and lesser Aisin. If you are sure its a LS6 then it will have the tremec

Take the vin and go to a dealership and ask them to check. Easiest way.

The output shaft is different as well.

The simplest thing to do would be to trade trannies.
