Re: motor mounts for lt1
If you're putting the motor in an orignal V8 car, you have to use the clamshells off of the original motor, or if you don't have them you need some for a standard SBC.

Re: motor mounts for lt1
i did put the clam shells from the original motor on the lt1 but it didnt look straight to me, plus the clam shells looked identical to the lt1 originals?? i didnt look if there was a way to mount the passenger side clam differently however....

Re: motor mounts for lt1
The clamshells bolt up the far front holes on the block
If you look, you can see the clamshell bolted up to my motor here

If you look at this picture, you will see three raised areas on the front of the block where the feezeplug is at, this is where the mount goes

Re: motor mounts for lt1
The pieces on the block are called the clamshell, you have to use the original ones from the old engine.

Re: motor mounts for lt1
i have a 95 LT1 that i plan on replacing my 305 TPI in my 86 trans am. i need to figure out the motor mount situation, the LT1 has reverse bolt pattern on the clam shells then my TPI motor does. and it is a male and female side on the motor.

Re: motor mounts for lt1
Drivers side clamshell is the same as classic SBC. Pass side is LT1 specific and needs to be changed over. Compare them side by side if you need to see the difference

Re: motor mounts for lt1
The clamshells on the old 305 will bolt up just fine to the LT1, they go to the furthest holes forward on the block, look at the pictures I posted up earlier in this thread. My LT1 came out of a '95

Re: motor mounts for lt1
FYI - If you are using LT1 F-body A/C, you need to grind down the passenger side clam shell until you have enough room for the a/c compressor to bolt up to the engine accessory bracket.

Re: motor mounts for lt1
i dont see how the the mounts from my 305 will bolt up the bolt patterns are reversed not to mention they are forward on the block compared to the old 305. can i buy mounts specificly for this application or replace the ones in the car. and will this still center up the engine enough so the tranny mount wont need to be moved. a detailed explanation would be greatly appreciatied

You don't use all of the LT1 bolts, but the 3rd gen mounts will bolt in place on the LT1.

Re: motor mounts for lt1
Ok, these here
![](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/attachments/ltx-lsx/198948d1273803574-motor-mounts-lt1-eng_motor_mount_brkts.jpg)
come off the old 305 and go on the front holes of the block where the freeze plug is on the front of the motor in this picture here, you don't turn them so the two holes are on the bottom.
![](https://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e274/carnage3/GTA/DSCF0369.jpg)
turned just like they are in the picture of the clamshells, they can't be turned upside down of what is in the picture, all of the chevys had them turned exactly like in the picture.
into these here
![](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/attachments/ltx-lsx/198949d1273803574-motor-mounts-lt1-4.jpg)
which should already be attached to the crossmember in the correct location since the car had a 305 in it to start with.
Trust me on this, I've swapped the LT1 out 4 times in my car, and it drops into place every time exactly where it is supposed to go.

Re: motor mounts for lt1
hey thanks a lot man, very helpfull. on another note what would you recomend to do with the wireing, i have a stock harness from the whole car, but i was wondering if i could get one that would plug in all of my stock guages. i have also heard people talk about getting a harness to use a 700R4 instead of the 4L60E. any suggestions
