Re: transmission cooler lines
The purpose of the cooler is to remove the heat from the fluid. Heat is one of the major destroyers of automatic transmissions. It doesn't matter which port you hook the line to. The fluid needs to circulate from one port on the transmission to the other. Plugging them is not an option.

Re: transmission cooler lines
They run to a cooler in the radiator in stock applications but if you had a manual car ( no cooler in the rad ) then you can buy a stand alone trans cooler and hook it up its just like a small rad that mounts in front of your stock rad. Make sure you get a high enough rated unit to handle the cooling on its own. Better yet run the stock in rad cooler and add an aftermarket as well. Thats the best bet.
If you dont hook those lines up you wont get very far at all

Re: transmission cooler lines
We may sound like we are harassing you, but the cooler is necessary. It boils down to this, running with no cooler will destroy your transmission.

Re: transmission cooler lines
advanced sells cheap hard line that you can attach those fittings to and bend into place (although the guy says the line is kinda hard to bend without heating), and an aftermarket cooler will come with rubber lines to attach the hard lines to near the front of the car.
truly, no cooler will boil your transmission in no time =/

Re: transmission cooler lines
I have the stock radiator and I found the original cooler lines from the donor car, and believe I now see the inlets for the transmission cooler on the radiator, should be all the way at top and one on bottom of radiator, just give me a confirmation so I know that is right
and what is the other radiator thing that comes with the car, it has a inlet at the top corner but its not threaded and it has a piece attached on it looks like it would screw in it to hold it in place, and the bottom has a neck with (male)fitting attached

Re: transmission cooler lines
I have ATSG service manual for 700r4 trasnmissions (which are basicly very similar to 4l60e) and it says that when you not use the cooling transmission will take like 5-10 mins to reach normaln operating temperature and next 5 mins to end hers life

Re: transmission cooler lines
Does anyone know if it matters which the lines are attached to? Top or bottom?
The line that goes to the top connector on the radiator is hooked up to the lower inlet on the transmission.
Being that they are both 5/16th lines, I'm not sure if it really matters as long as it flows through the radiator. Its been about 3 years since i started the swap in my car. And my memory is gone as to which is supply and which is return.

Re: transmission cooler lines
I belive the factory way is the lower trans inlet to lower radiator, and upper trans to upper radiator. But I think if you connect it the other way it will still work.
