Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
i'm not seeing a huge issue in a worm clamp chopping a little into a quarter inch thick nylon woven rubber line, but then again i've never had a fuel line blow off so I dont know lol. If that clamps are your only concern then thats easy enough to fix.
as far as the rubber hose, theres not alot I can do about that lol.

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
I've had those cheap clamps fail and cut through hose on coolant lines at 18PSI... LS1 fuel pressure is 61 PSI and its FUEL!!!
Any mistake and you go boom!
Not at all worth the risk for the sake of 1 dollar clamps. Be smart here man and replace them. Dont become a safety statistic. Also make certain the rubber fuel line you use/d is rated for fuel injection there are many different types

Even if you bail out of the car quickly enough, it would almost certainly burn to the ground before the FD could get there - I've seen a couple of cars on fire, & they've burned a bit faster than I thought they would've (one, an older VW Bug, scared me with how fast it burned!) It would SUCK to watch all of your money & hard work "go up in smoke" so that you could save $20 (or even $100)...

But you'd be a LOT better off with a better grade of fuel line, like Aeroquip braided hose, etc...
Anyway, good luck with your swap.

Did you ever figure out what to use to plug the oil level sensor hole? I am trying to figure out the same thing. Thanks

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
Its some metric pipe thread. I just stuffed the LS1 oil pressure sender back in even though it does nothing. I used a mech oil pressure gauge from the little fitting off the side of the oil pan thats blocked off. I drilled that out and tapped it 1/8th NPT and plumbed it in with some aeroquip braided line.
If you need/want to use the stock LS1 oil pressure sender port to run your stock gauge you can do so i know equus ( sp? ) sells a little metric to imperial adapter kit that I know a lot of guys over at LS1tech have used to adapt their aftermarket oil pressure ( and water temp too for that matter ) gauges up. Its cheap too

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
I used somewhere between an 18 to 20 mm (i dont remember to be honest) drain plug from your local auto parts store.
no the car didnt kill me, just the end of the semester. Wiring is pretty much done. Fuel system has G clamps on it, and the driveshaft should be arriving shortly. Almost done. I'll post pics soon

Motor turned over at the crack of the key today, ran for a couple minutes. I moved the transmission and surprisingly, no leaks or problems. Pics will follow.

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
That looks awesome. What are you doing for exhaust?
I'm picking up an 84 Z28 Friday that's LS1 M6 swapped with an LS6 cam in it. Owner claims 3043 without driver, and 12.7x-12.8x @ 120+mph in the 1/4 mile. The car is black with a 4th gen rear, 3.73's, and C5 Z06 wheels - 18x10.5 rears, 17x-9.5 fronts. It's running 18" of straight pipe after the stock manifolds, so I'm going to have to put some kind of exhaust on it.

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
for now I was going to just do stock manifolds to down pipe to a couple glasspacks near the rear tires. Its enough pipe that it doesnt dump right next to my seat, so its quiet enough for me lol. I have a pair of hooker headers for a third gen sitting next to the car because i want to make a pair of long tubes, but that probably isnt happening anytime soon.

I can't wait to see your car finished, you're making great progress.

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
For those keeping score at home, the car is on the road. Took it to a mechanic to get subframes and exhaust put on last week (i'll get pics and maybe sound tomorrow). Drove her to work today for the first time in 7 months and was damn pleased wtih everything done so far.
exhaust is true dual 3" to no name 3 chamber mufflers dumped at axle. a couple more weeks and i'm going to add bolt on under the axle tail pipes to throw the sound out from under the car.

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
I know everybody is probably sick of my posts by now, but this is probably the last one for this thread seeing as how my swap has come to an end. The car runs great and I couldnt be happier with the performance. I encourage anyone considering this swap to get out there and try it for yourselves.
I love being asked about what I've done and sharing my experience, so if anybody has any question about it feel free to contact me through here or my email jmeek82z28@gmail.com
anyway here's the of the exhaust and subframes that I was going to post.
your mileage may vary on the clearance I have but its a florida car and the worst i deal with is a speed bump =D

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
Yea, I think mine's a bit lower than that. Also have the Spohn crossmember, so I'm a bit limited with what I can do with my exhaust. I believe ghettocruiser posted up some pictures of what he did, routing around the crossmember.
I think I'm going to farm mine out to a reputable exhaust shop, and mate it up to the factory 3rd gen flowbastard catback that came with the car. It's currently open header, dumped at the crossmember.

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
I made myself a liar, and decided to post how things are going.
I ended up pulling the intake and throwing on an ls6 I got for cheap in town. I also polished the throttle body and got some longer piping for my intake setup. I've also added a catchcan for crank vent and a coolant reservoir. My 1LE heater box just showed up today, so adding a defroster is this weekend's project. I also realized i messed up my wiring on the cooling fans when yesterday reached record temperatures and my coolant started to steam lol. Everything is alright, but I ended up with 1 fan coming on at low signal and 1 coming on at high so i had a good over that.
anyways here's a couple pics of what its looking like.
I've taken it to a couple muscle meets in town and people cant get enough of the car, so I'm having a blast right now.
also if anybody knows how to get in touch with the guy that was making the TGO.org decals I'd love to grab a couple in silver

Re: 82 z28 ls1 swap
Great numbers!!!
The guy that I got my car from used the 4th gen brake booster and master cylinder. Mine isn't as pretty as most of y'alls, either. I'm currently looking for a hardtop to swap everything into. My t-tops leak, and the body is a bit rough on it.

Not too shabby man (especially through a TH400!!), that's gotta feel pretty good...
BTW, the first time I watched your video, the noise startled me a little bit - it sounded more like some kind of jet turbine winding up than a V-8... Figured that it must have (at least partially) been intake noise from your CAI.

LOL. It was a pretty small shop and the vid was taken on my friends cell phone. It may be 5 megapixel images, but the speaker still cant pick up the roar =D
I'll try to get to a scanner and put my chart up so everyone can check it out.
