Eh...thats been around for awhile. Problem is its like $1k-$2k. AND you have to use their programming software.

You can get a stock harness dirt cheap (usually comes with the motor) and do some simple mods to it and get it to work perfectly. And use whatever tuning software you want.

Or go to speartech and get a custom harness for like 6-700...

Not knocking the product...its just going to be wayyyyy out of the price range that many of us are willing to pay for that sort of thing.

$200 for a factory harness and PCM
$500 for tuning software
=$700, less than half the price of that set-up with all the same funcionality.

Not to mention the "painless" harness is about as painless as you paying me a bunch to cut the connectors off a 4th gen harness and label the wires for you....

Re: Something interesting for your LS1

Back when I did my swap I bought my engine, pcm, harness, tranny and everything from speartech..they even ran it on the stand before they shipped it..

My knowledge base and the general knowledge base on this board has grown a lot since then, if not exponentially.. But at the time I did pay the extra to get a system that had been running on the stand, labled, programmed and ready to go.. Without it I may not of had the guts to swap at the time.

Now with my current knowledge I would have no trouble..but at the time (almost 5 years ago) it made good sense.. for example I never had to deal with the alternator problem so many LTx folks were having at the time, or vats, etc..

for some having the "little" things done already can help out alot.. Budget providing of course.

This?

Thats for the a cam, and the harness and conroller. No programming software I believe.

I think you can get the harness and module for 1300..but again, thats without the CaTool and software to mess with the tune.

You are right though...it is a decent solution. I just feel that the OE harness is more than capable of performing well...afterall, it is factory. And with guys like speartech making custom harnesses for half the price, and being able to use "standard" tuning software with the stock PCM...I still feel thats the best route for swappers and rodders.

Not a BAD option...just saying I wouldnt even think of payin that much for it with the other options available.

Ummm when I priced it out there was a 1 in front of that. Seriously 1350 bucks was what he wanted for plug and play. Thats a tad steep IMO 6 or 7 hundred I would have bought it

Re: Something interesting for your LS1

Haha...holy crap~! I thought his harnesses were only 6 or 700 clams....

Wait... is that maybe for his "swap harness"? Like, not plug and play but wired so all you need is power, grounds, and gauge hook ups??

Because thats all I think you need for a swap. Most of the thirdgen harness is useless for the swap. And I think a lot of guys are running aftermarket gauges anyway.

The painless kit deals, much the same way that speartech's harness does, only with getting the motor up and running correct? Or does it also make your gauges and what not function? Because I could see paying 1k if it was TOTALLY plug and play and made your gauges function and everything. Which is what speartech's 1k+ harness does correct?

I guess I never really researched this much because I knew I was going to make the stock harness do what I wanted. So I could just be blowing smoke out of my rear...

Re: Something interesting for your LS1

Yeah it is... Ill put up with a few hours of splicing and spaghetti straightening to avoid those prices... In fact, if I knew then what I know now, the only thing I would have bought pre-made would have been the hawks headers. Every other conversion part that I bought I ended up ditching and remaking on my own. haha.

Thats the way it goes though. I will say...painless does make some nice stuff though. Ive never had issues with anything else I got from them...other than price.

Re: Something interesting for your LS1

I've been looking into doing my own wiring for about a month now. I am pretty certain with the info I have and a couple of days to do it right I'm going to save about $1000. Just an issue of knowing what wires to connect to what wires and splicing them so that they won't mess up down the road. I just dread my slight OCD when I start bundling/hiding the wiring.

Re: Something interesting for your LS1

when i got my ls1 it had a wiring harness. I then sent it to john at speartech, and he made it stand alone. All i had to do was connect to battery constant and ignition, and plug it in. He removed all unnecessary stuff that i diddnt want to run (ac, emissions, etc) put a stand alone fuse block on it, wired in a stand alone aldl connector, fuel pump relay and wire, and brought out all the guage wires (speedo, tach, volts, oil). I did not have to use anything but this harness, no body or dash harness pieces from a 4th gen.

i paid 450 for the conversion yeah its 450 but NO headaches whatsoever. I also bought my hptuners software too so im at a grand and 1. had alot less work to wire it (a dumbass could not screw this up) and 2. have full tuneability at my fingertips.
