Hey guys,
I completed my LS1/T56 swap at the beginning of September and figured its about time to get a thread going with the buildup.
I bought my motor and tranny from http://www.fpartssalvage.com/. They are located in Bristol, Pennsylvania. They were very accommodating and helped out a lot. Everything came to 4500 dollars from them. The motor was a 2000 Camaro SS motor with 40k miles on it. The transmission was a T56 (the 6 speed manual transmission). They also gave me the ECU, wiring, pedals, driveshaft etc with this. Everything was there to make the swap possible.
This is what I got:

Cleaned and painted the engine bay. Also hung pedals and cut a hole for the shifter.

Some more shots of the engine bay painted and back inside the shop. Here we ran into some trouble since the AC compressor was hitting the steering. In the end we realized that we needed to shim the motor mounts up and it fixed our problem.

First night it was done

I think this is all I currently have of this. In total it took 10 days to do everything. 68 actual work hours. Im so incredibly happy with the way everything turned out. If you guys have questions I will do my best to answer them. Cheers

Hey man looks great. I was actually checking the F Parts eBay store before I read your post. There were some (what look to be) great deals on there but I wanted to get some feedback before a went ahead and dropped a few thousand on a new motor/trans. Looks like it work out real well for you!
A couple of questions:
How is the ride with the extra weight on those CM springs you are running?
1. My car bottoms out ALL the time with them I wanted to know if the LS1 makes any difference (if it gets worse).
2. Did you switch your rear end or are you still running the old "one wheel peel"?
3. Same fuel pump?

2. The rear end is still stock. I'll change it when it breaks. Right now its fine

Cool, always like build threads. Hopefully ill put one up when my swap is done. Bet your loving that LS1/T56 combo...Something tells me i should have saved 2 more grand and just bought an LS motor...but thats alright i can always get one down the road i doubt this will be my first/last engine swap lol.
I like how you used the engine hoist from the side of the car...not sure why i didnt think of that. Of course i pulled the engine/tranny together it would have been too hard to slide it back but for just the engine thats a good idea because i had to remove my front bumper and air dam.

Nice swap. Mighty fast build time there.
I agree with others about that fuel pump your not the first to try and run a stocker you might wanna look into what happened to other guys who did ( MrDude1 for starters ) it wasn't a good result.

Where did you end up putting the computer?? Punch a hole in the fire wall or what??
BTW, looks like a great install, and I love your car collection there. An I30 (or I35?), a CRX and a Porsche 914, that's vareity!

Most of those cars arent mine. Only the I35 and the Camaro. The others were the dude's that owned the shop we were working at.

My stock fuel pump died eventually just like you guys said it would
I now have a proper Walbro in there and the car works really well

Update to my car.
Stock V6 rear end decided it wanted to hate life so I replaced it with a fourth gen rear end with 3.42s. That promptly blew up the first day I had it in so I decided to do something more proper and got in touch with cam- about something that I can beat on and not worry about it exploding all over the road. I finally had it delivered Saturday afternoon and Mike helped us get it in. Thanks a lot for all of your help dude.

NICE Glad to see you are still tinkering with her. Nice to know you have some beef out back so you dont have to worry.
Im running the 4th gen alum driveshaft...which worries me a bit. But there are guys with a lot more power than me with an alum shaft....so Ill wait til she blows. haha.

Damn those are some sweet rotors. Yeah man no worries it was fun anyways although I had the bobble head going pretty good by the time I got home LOL. Is the cam going in this week?

Cam *should* be going in this week. All the parts are ordered so we're just waiting on that. Hopefully its in before track day. Am I allowed to beat on the car just after a fresh cam install?

Yeah with roller cams there is no break in so your good to go right out the gate. Ideally its nice to put one heat cycle and cool down through the valve springs before max RPM but your not going to have to worry about that because when they tune it they'll wring the snot out of it and make sure everything is good to go. I'm quite curious to see what she MPH's with the new cam through manifolds so I hope they get it done this week

Took the Camaro to the track today (second time ever at the track) and ran a 13.96@108.46. Im pretty excited

Nice MPH! Time for LCA's and more practice. Start with tire pressure at 16psi and play around from there
