Dyno'd the LT1 today.

Well just got in from the dyno, the car was previously set up for nitrous so there is some timming backed out of it, and the rev limited is set too low. He could only rev it up to 5700RPM and it kept climbing. He said if I bring it it for a tune I should be at 350-355 RWHP.

Plans are to swap the Hotcam out for a GM847, possible 1 3/4 long tubes and maybe spray it over the winter.

Three runs made

Run 1
311.2HP@5640RPM, 310.7ft.lbs@4880RPM
Run 2
309.6HP@5540RPM, 306.9ft.lbs@4740RPM
Run 3
312.8HP@5640RPM, 309.0ft.lbs@4780RPM

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/f...b901461bbd.htm
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/7...b9014c8980.htm
Over all I am a little bummed bc I was hoping for 350 but all I can think is it does a 12.9@107 now and There is A LOT left in the motor, and after the cam, headers, N2O I am hoping for a High 11.

I am also getting a 8.8" with 3.55s fabbed up over the winter, I just need to find a site that has some info about the axles etc.

I am waiting for the videos to upload so I shall post them shortly.

Jay

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

those are too bad for that motor given low rev limit and backed timing.. timing and more revs may see another 15 hp which will get u close to 330whp which is about the norm for an auto car. i think most hotcam/heads cars make 350whp or so with a stick so 330whp is about right with proper tune/timing

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

If 350 hp is what you want you can do that with alot smaller that the 847. If you do get get the 847 with that big of a cam you might want to get the heads portted. Check out www.camaroZ28.com Every came made for the LT1 and some not made for it is run there.

Who done them? If there done and you just got that with the HC I would have my head dragging. But only getting to rev it to 5700 rpm hurt too.

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

depends on how ported they are, but i dont think the hotcam will make much more than 350whp thru a manual with ported heads.

312 with nitrous timing thru an auto with stall doesnt seem all that bad.

now was the converter locked up during these runs? i've seen 10whp gain just by keeping the converter locked during the dyno run. better indication of whats actually getting thru the motor to the rear tires, but doesnt always mean you'll run faster in the 1/4 with it locked up

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

my 97ta put down 320hp on the hot cam and lt4 heads w no tune and an auto. think the 847 is to much cam for an auto that may be daily driven i would stick with what you have and look else where for the power loss (tune)

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

I would look at the XFI292 cam, it keeps the power and torque down on the RPM scale and makes hella power.

292/300 241/248@.050 .584 .579 113°

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

I deffinitly will look into other cams, my buddy is a big GM guy, he had a 91 Formula and now a 99 SS, he was telling me to go with the GM847. But I also do want drivablity. I really like the way the car idles with the Hot cam tho. Also the springs that are in it are good for around a .550 lift. What springs would I need with these cams, and do they require any moddifing etc?

Thanks for the comments.

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

I would put a set of beehive springs in for them. The 847 is a crap cam compared to what comp has out in their XFI line for the LT1's. The 847 is closer to the 306 which has no bottom end at all in it and several guys have swapped their 306 over to the 292 and said it drove like a totally different car. You have a good enough stall for the 292 as well.

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

For cams I would seriously talk to Lloyd Elliot, www.eportworks.com or Jeff Creech at www.carolinaautomasters.com

both do custom cams, custom heads/engines, and/or tunes and will give no bull advise.

For your setup I wouldn't expect more than 330rwhp/350rqtq through an auto..maybe a bit more.

I am curious about the heads, who did them, flow numbers? Without them fully ported and well done you won't see the full potential of whatever cam you pick..

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

that XFI cam is HUGE for a stock bottom end LT1 350..it will rev to the moon..its much bigger thant he CC306 or 847 cam. i wouldnt run that cam in those cars but i guess some guys have had good success. it certainly shouldnt act any better than those old grinds, as the xfi has very aggressive ramps and will want to rev up.

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

from the two guys that I know personally running it, they shift at 6200 where with the 306 it was still pulling at 6800, that both being on stock bottom ends.

Here's what the 292 sounds like

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/2...9a01684ee0.htm

Specs: 2200 to 6200 292/300 242/248@.050 .584/.579 113°

And the 306

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/a...11015f1a92.htm

Specs: 1800 to 5800 290/307 230/244@.050 .510/.540 112°

Re: Dyno'd the LT1 today.

The xfi292 is just like any other hydraulic/hydraulic roller camshaft. What i mean by that is that it generally meets its stability limits around 6,500-6,700rpm. Hydraulic lifters have a habbit of floating after that even with a hydra-rev kit and too much spring pressure with cause the lifters to collaps and cause premature engine damage.
