LT1 Swap best yr wiring and computer?

What is the best years to get a wiring harness and computer for for an LT1 install. I have an LT1 right now but no wiring or computer the LT1 was out of a 94 impala ss but now has the camaro intake and injection on it.

Also where did you find was the best place to locate a computer and harness if you didnt get it with the motor?

Thanks

No help on a source, but the 93 had no MAF, speed density deal so it would be the simplest but not too tolerant of modifications. The 94/95 was an improvement over the 93 but more complicted with the MAF sensor and sequential injection. 96 up was the OBDII system, I wouldn't tackle that one unless I already had everything to do the swap.

'95 is generally accepted as the best year to use for the swap. its still OBDI, but is sequential injection with a Flash memory versus bank-to-bank and EPROM in the '92-'93. A '94 harness will work just the same, however the '95 engine has an upgraded vented Optispark.

Re: LT1 Swap best yr wiring and computer?

The best is 95. Camaro/firebird harness and computer would be better because its easier to find the wiring for those cars it seems.

What computer you can use might depend on which transmission you have if you have an automatic. 95-97 automatic transmissions are the only LT1 trannys that are interchangable. I'm not for sure on this but a 94 tranny probably not work with a 95 harness. If you're running a 700r4 then no problem but I don't recommend it(thats the tranny I have with my LT1 swap)

95-97 wiring harnesses should be interchangeable but 96-97 will just have extra wires. In other words, you should be able to use a 95 computer on a 96-97 harness.

Best places to find LT1 stuff: Ebay, camaroz28.com(classifieds section), this site's classifeds, LS1tech.com or maybe even some corvette or impala forums.

the years on the obd isnt correct. 95 lt1's are maf obd2. i have one in my march 05 formula. i guess iots possible they came obd1 if they were yearend builds like 1-1-05. but on average the obd2's are 95.

Uhhh.....that is incorrect all '95 model cars were OBD-I with an OBD-II style connector, some of the truck PCM's could be read by OBD-II scanners but they were still OBD-I.

My LT1 came out of a very late model '95 T/A and it's fully OBD-I

Re: LT1 Swap best yr wiring and computer?

so i took a look at my bird today to see if it was obd1 with an obd2 connector. I know that ob1\obd2 connector is common, but im fairly sure mine is not. Here is what i found. The connecter on it says obd2, but thats not proof that it is. So i grabed a scaner and looked at what proticol it used and when i crossed it in the book it says that this one is used for some obd2 domestic cars from mid to late 90's. so unless that proitcol does obd1 and obd2, i would think it is obd2. i am going to take it by work, and put it on my e-diog and see what it says. plus our programmer will be in tomorow, so he will be able to tell us more.
i did forget to mention that it is also a firehawk.

Best way to tell OBD-I from OBD-II, does it have the crank sensor, and 4 O2 sensors?

Re: LT1 Swap best yr wiring and computer?

so you learn somthing new everyday! i talked to the programer, and he said that the computer in the 95 lt1's arent true obd2 or a true obd1. He said that the computer that is in there is basicly a dumed down obd2 to use obd1 data streams. The software on bord is obd1, and used obd1 data streams, but has the ability to use obd2 software. He went on to say that the computer thats in the 95's is by far the best for doing any swaps, or moding. Kinda cool i guess. He said the reason my scanner used a obd2 proticol to interface with it was becasue the 95's are able to use some obd2 interfaces. depending on what your tring to do, it can entface simular to a true obd2, but not have all the abilities of a full obd2. what abilities hewas talking about i dont know.
----------
one more tidbit, he did say that later in 95 you were able to get obd2... so i guess there is some out there, but not on a eariler modle like mine.
