Car: '86 IROC-Z/'94 Z28

LT1 swap w/TPI intake was interesting...
I recently put a 350 LT1 in my '86 iroc since I had an LT1 from my last car and I happened to find a Accel TPI intake for an LT1. Well even though I'm deployed now, I figured I'd post my results.
The swap to sequential over batchfire was AMAZING. Start up time, driveability, was all far better than with new delco sensors and the 165 ECM. I had no choice at the time and I had to run it with stock runners, which will be replaced by a superram sometime soon.
On a dyno, with hedman longtubes through a 'conversion' 4L60E automatic (can run both the mechanical speedo and VSS) the new motor made 355RWHP and 409 RWTQ, which sounds kind of amazing to me! Since my runners are cast Im thinking they may not be stockers since most are stamped...got them from a 1987 junkyard car. They look to be stock diameter though.
this is on a fresh rebuild, std.bore and stock rotating assembly, mild comp cam, OBD I PCM, hedman longtube headers, borla catback wide open with mandrel bent Y, 10 bolt rear, ported LT1 heads by me, 1.6 roller rockers, port matched intake manifold, 54mm throttle body (ported grandsport TB), fully ported plenum, fuel psi at 50, injectors 24# SVO.
the motor appears to be a TPI motor, but when you look and see no plug wires, no distributor, the blockoff plate on the intake and the water pump... it confuses people
I have my digi cam and paperwork coming. When I get them I'll post them.
Just another idea for the LT1 swap crowd. This motor gets 31mpg highway and 24 mpg city at 75mph. It sits at my house now waiting for me to get back and drive it and my '94 some more. A/C off... does not work yet.
BTW hedman longtubes dont fit well without alot of trial fitting and prying on the collector. They tend to butt up on the frame, at least in my case. Welding O2 bungs in the collectors was easy with a wire feed welder.
Best thought is I managed to build this entire drivetrain for under $2000. My out of pocket cost was well under $1000 with some trading involved. It would cost me twice to build a comparable ZZ4 motor using the older technology.
thoughts?

I would love to see pics as well. And are you going to run AC?
So you made 355hp & 409 with a mild cam, stock self ported LT1 heads, LTs, open catback.....through a TPI intake? How mild is the cam? I'm not ragging it just seems unreal. I hope it is though.

sorry it took me so long to answer guys. Hard to get on a computer around here. The cam specs are 220/230/114, dont remember the lift offhand. I thought it would be kind of big but it seems to work. I havent had much of a chance to drive the car since it was completed shortly before my deployment, I didnt even get pictures of the damn thing. Yes I plan on running A/C. I didnt have the time to install all of that before leaving though.
The swap was suprisingly easy. I was confused about the transmission issue, running an OBDII trans with an OBDI setup, but it all plugged together and went well. I just confirmed there are no compatability issues.
Like I said, the VSS and running the stock speedo was suprisingly easy to fix and the install looks almost factory. I now have both a VSS and a mechanical sender in the tailshaft on the 4L60-E. I'm still considering ditching the thing for a T-56 since the car is already set up for one. No reason to though...
I'll take some pictures and finish wrapping the install up when I get home on leave in January.
yeah the numbers are a little high, but the compression is alot higher than a TPI car, the heads flow more, the lower intake is an accel, and not to mention the headers and factory windage tray. Even with all that, it runs good for a LTR setup. Too bad I cant enjoy it right now.
that car sat stored since 2000 with no engine or transmission. It's about time lol. Hopefully the power picks up when I burn all that skunky fuel out.
