Did you cut the holes to get to the fuel pumps in both of your cars ?

Yes, but I only did it to create an easy access panel to get to the fuel pump from the top, instead of dropping the entire gas tank out from the bottom. It’s too much work for replacing fuel pump underneath the car all the time. You don’t have to do that, but it is easier to get too.

Re: LS1 fuel tank (Plastic 99-02 style)
my question about this is the ls tank has 2 wires for the fuel level (purple) are we to splice them together? I was afraid that would cancel out the signal to the gauge

ALL fuel level senders have two wires. And no you don't connect them, you answered your own question

Here is the wire harness for the fuel pump which I spliced the black wire and the purple wire (far end) together.

Apologies for asking a question that may have been answered, but I'm seeing conflicting info. Does the above wiring connections to the PCM work correctly or like some of the others have commented, does the PCM need the 4th gen cluster to complete the circuit with the fuel gauge? (In an application like above - LS1, corresponding PCM, 4th gen plastic tank)

I had read entired posts, but some of it is confusing and doesn’t make any sense. There’re people had asked the same questions about hooking up LS1 plastic fuel tank along its EVAP canister, but no one really didn’t answer his/her questions nor explained step by step procedures. Anyway, I have installed a LS1 plastic fuel tank, plastic fuel lines, LS fuel pump, and its EVAP canister to my both 95 Camaro LT1 and 91 Camaro V6. By doing some experiments with it, this is my results and hope to share my info on it.

I hope this can be helpful to those who want to hook up your LS1 Plastic fuel tank and its Evap canister.

Anyways, I have a 2000 Fbody and the evap solenoid in the engine bay has been removed where it connects to the intake and the evap vent line in the engine bay is venting to atmosphere. Evap is turned off in tune. Don't like the idea on venting to atmosphere. If I cap the evap line in the engine bay will the tank have venting issues or will it be fine since the charcoal canister is still attached? How can I fix this and have a clean engine bay without using the factory solenoid?

If the evap is disabled in the tune then you can remove any solenoid. Just leave the charcoal canister on the 99 tank

Re: LS1 fuel tank (Plastic 99-02 style)
What about the evap line that runs from the tank up to the engine bay? If you plug that, won’t it create tank pressure issues? That kind has to be vented to atmosphere even if the stock charcoal canister is present, correct?

I just have the canister on my 4th gen plastic tank and I don't have any issues, the evap purge is not controlled

Re: LS1 fuel tank (Plastic 99-02 style)
Interesting topic. I have been working on my project since 2013. I sent my 95 Caprice ECM out to be set up to run my LT1. I hope the guy didn't disconnect the evap circuit as I plan on using it to purge my fourth gen tank. If he did disconnect it or disable it, I can manually ground the purge valve with a switch. The ECM just grounds the purge valve during certain situations. It opens when not in idle and WOT.

Re: LS1 fuel tank (Plastic 99-02 style)
My 83 Camaro didn't have an electric fuel pump in the tank. It had the ole engine driven fuel pump on the engine. When I went with the plastic tank it had an electric fuel pump in it. Does the 87 TPI have the electric pump in the tank already? If so, the swap to a plastic tank is easier. I explained how I did it in my thread "83 Camaro/95 Caprice LT1 swap" BTW, I'm still working on this "life long" project .
