Just bought car. Interior signal light lamps do not work, but signal lights on exterior work just fine. Since both don't work I am suspious it's something other then a lamp burned out.
Question: do u access bulbs under the dash, or do u take screws out of dash (visual part u view when in driver seat)??
Q#2: Any other thing other then bulbs that cause the issue??
Thks
Since they blink on the outside
Possibly just the plug in the back of the dash is loose.
Maybe some PO hacked up the plastic circuit board on the
back of the guages.
Or both bulbs could blown.
Just pull off the dash pad and look at the back of the guages.
Test with your test light.....................

Do u know how to remove the bulbs??
I have used a test light and there is current to the bulb socket when signal handle is activated ( both left and right)..
R the bulbs in a spring socket?? I have tried to push on the bulb but it seems stationary so I don't seem to be in a spring socket.. Not sure what else to do..
There is no room to go in the back side of the dash just impossible.
I have removed the black plastic molding around the instrument cluster.
Then i removed the clear plaster molding.
Now i have the white plastic molding with gauges and lamp lights visible.
So to get the white cluster detached from the dash, what do i have to do?? I notice there are only about 4 screws left which appear to me to hold the gauges onto the white cluster. Do those 4 screws allow the white plastic to be removed back far enough to get the the bulbs??? I am confused about this setup.
And in addition to the above, am i correct that a person can Not get to any bulbs coming from the back under the dash???
Thanks again. I am new to this car and dont know how else to proceed...
sonjaab might be right. Once the the front black trim, metal trim, and clear face are off, you can certainly get to the bulbs. The question is, which I do not know....can you pull the bulb out? ...-meaning can you get your fingers in there? Certianly worth a shot. While the entire bulb and socket pull out from the back, the bulb theoretically could pull out of the sotcket from the front, with the socket still mounted. That's a good idea if it works!
....regardless, if you proceed with removing the cluster, either now or for something in the future, there are two nuts along the bottom (10mm I think?), one on the left, one on the right, adjacent to warning light bulbs. They need to come out. Then you have to remove the speedo cable. It's got a little clip on it. Get on your back, worm your way under the dash and use a long flat bladed screw driver in one hand, and pull the cluster out with the other. Plastic flashlight in your mouth. I can have the cluster out in less than 5 minutes easy, but I've done it once or 100 times!
Did you actually read my post? I answered all of your questions and concerns about the cluster in my post.
If you are confirming that you can in fact remove the bulbs with needle nose pliers, yes...I agree....that's definitely the way to do it. Again....as I said in my post.
Sorry you took my post so negatively. All I basically said was that I thought you had a great idea, but I didn't know if you could get to the bulbs. I think that's a pretty straight forward and reasonable statement/question. No reason to get bent out of shape.
...and then, since the OP DID ask about removing the cluster, I figured I'd answer him. As I said if you had read my posts....you may have to remove the cluster for another reason later on, so I figured I'd answer, EVEN if it wasn't necessary THIS TIME.
If your trip odometer doesn't function, this might be the time to pull the cluster, not only the repair the trip but also to more easily check the circuit board and/or replace the bulbs if necessary. The following link may be useful:
Howdy, Well i got the job done.
Ok i really didnt know what kind of bulb it is. Another post had it and it is a #194 which is a push in bulb (has tiny wires embedded).. Prior to my finding out the type of bulb, i did not know whether it was a spring loaded socket bulb or what so that's why i was searching for info..
I used a needle nose plier with black electrical tape on the jaws so it will grip the bulb when you pull. Without the electric tape there was not enough grip to remove the bulb.
To replace the bulb i used a radiator overflow hose (which is about a 3/8inch or less diameter), by putting the bulb slightly into the hose, then push the bulb into the socket and when you feel it snap in, rotate the hose Counter Clockwise (so as Not to potentially turn the bulb socket out of the instrument cluster)... The turn signal indicator bulbs have a 3 inch tunnel where the bulb is in and so that's why you need like a long nose needle plier. With the gauges present in the cluster, there is almost no way to get two finger grip on a bulb.
This instrument cluster is Not a butchered up job by anybody. I was simply unaware what kind of bulb it was, how it goes into the socket. I used a test light to test the instrument cluster socket to test for current.
So everybody thanks for replying. I have used this website before and it's my opinion that sometimes you have to give the person asking the question as much info as possible since he may be brand new to an issue.
Thanks again..
