My door handle on my 89 GTA for the drives side door broke off and now I cannot open the door. The outside is not functional either. So my question now is how do I get the panel off or open the door so I can work on it?

Get in the Passenger side and open the door from the inside and remove the panel, then replace the outside handle.

Inside drivers door latch broke off. It cannot be opened front he inside I tried it and only managed to muck up the broken door handle more. It's soft metal so you can't really pry on it with a screwdriver or pliers. Is there a way to get to the latch mechanism if the door is shut?

I don't want to laugh but this is pretty ridiculous. I believe you pop the door card off and manually open the door then begin repairs.

Remove the trim pieces around it and grab hold of what's left of it with a pair of channel locks. My guess is you probably need to rebuild your hinges too. Usually why people break door handles.

I got the car as a project. The first problem with the drivers door is the outside handle stopped working because the linkage to it broke off (you can hear it rattling if you swing the door back and forth). I was planning on fixing it once the weather broke. Sadly the inside door handle decided to break before the weather did. Can I remove the door panel enough to get to the linkage to pull on it to get the door to open?

Pulling on the handle does not engage the latch enough it hangs up about half way open.

If the handle is broke already it should be no problem to remove the plastic trim pieces from around the handle, they come off separate from the panel. Then you will have access to enough of the linkage and the chunk of handle to pop the latch, without having to remove the panel.
