firebird dash speaker grills

Ok so as we all know, nobody makes a firebird dash speaker grills replacement of any sort, or at least none that i've been able to find. I have yet to see any bird with a set of grills that don't flop around because the plastic studs snapped off. Nevermind how horribly they fade and make the dash look bad. sometimes they're hacked to death from someone trying to salvage it.

So that said I took it upon myself to make a set. I wanna see what others think of them.

I made them out if standard 1/8" tempered Masonite, cut out with a router for accuracy, added an A frame shape to help prevent sagging while allowing plenty of space for sound travel. Used a standard headliner material. hardware and is very simple 6/32 machine screws with washers and mounts very sturdily.

so here are the pics (some quite crappy)

Also happened to find a really nice dash, so the two compliment each other very well.

I'm quite pleased with how they turned out. A vast improvement from the 27 year old grills.

If only there were pictures.

EDIT: They look excellent. Much better than the factory junk.

Very nice, did the similar thing with some GM grills on my Camaro dash pad after I recovered it.

$40 shipped in the contiguous U.S. I was looking to find at least a few people, this way I'm not doing one or two here and there. You know 4 or 5 or so.

Just want to say I love what you've done with the fake leather pouch delete on the dash. Done something similar with mine.

thanks, i like things that look like it could have come factory. It was quite a bit of work, surprisingly. it matches my door panels and trunk area. "the Pontiac" badge is actually off of our cars from the driver-side headlight bezel and the badge is off of an aztek front bumper. lol it was the best looking badge i had ever found.

Right after i had made it, I happend to find a pristine 86 T/A real leather pouch. But i like mine better. so it sits in the closet.

I like them better than factory, would be interested in pair when you decide to make some.

Are you still interested in selling the speaker grills? I'd purchase two sets from you for my 88'. Let me know
