Firebird Odometer - Broken, but is there a fix?

Re: Firebird Odometer - Broken, but is there a fix?
TTT for 2020! Just finally got around to doing this on the 89 and of course, results are a working odometer once again! Great product for those who have not done this yet, it will fix you right up! Now, I have to figure out why the speedometer needle only works when I tap on the cluster with my knuckles while driving. I could not see or feel anything that would cause this while inside the cluster fixing the gear, so that mystery remains.

When replacing the gear; should there be any lube or grease put on the shaft which the gear rotates on? It looks like the factory used some sort of grease on the gears.

J.C.
I could use the KPH gear if the tooth count is different. I need a gear to take measurements from. The MPH should be finished in a week or two. If I had the other at the same time, it would speed the process. Call me and I can send you a shipping label. Your speedometer will be returned to you with a working gear after we finish the work.

Re: Firebird Odometer - Broken, but is there a fix?
Finally got around to pulling my gauge cluster apart and tackling the odometer fix.
Everything went together smoothly and the Odometer Gears kit was perfect. Of course my battery decided to short itself out while on the battery tender over the winter so I haven't had a chance to test the repair but I don't foresee any issues.
Thanks to everyone who got this kit to market ! Great product.

We have been working in the shadows and didn't want to say anything until it was finally finished and proved to work. We are making the gears in our plastic injection machines now. Sorry for the plug but I do know it helps a lot of folks on this board. I'm happy to pay for sponsorship if you want me to.
We have been making replacement odometer gears for almost 20 years now but mostly for VDO, Smith and Jaeger instruments. These new gears and all that we sell are made by us in the states. Nothing is imported in and nothing is 3D printed. You will never have to replace the gear again. This is our goal.

You can call me anytime if you have questions. This forum has a wealth of information and we appreciate all that you have given us. For anyone who wants to work on a video or picture FAQ for us, I will gladly send a free gear.

I live in Belgium, EuropeI checked out your site, and it is exactly what I need.
unfortunately, paying 50$ shipping for a 35$ part, knowing that customs will be an extra 50$, it too much for me.... Is there a cheaper way?

Not sure if it would work but you don't happen to know anyone that travels to the states for work do you? Maybe they could carry a few back with them ?

Did you check with their European distributors ? Them being in EU should keep the cost down.
See: https://www.odometergears.com/distributors.php
Other option would be if someone on here that lives in the US would be willing to have the kit shipped to them and then they forward it to you (it fits in a small jiffy bag so USPS shipping would most likely be around $10-15 .... and in that case make sure to ask them to declare a $10 USD value on the export paperwork.
Hope this helps

Shipping and fees anywhere in the world these days are crazy (I live in the UK); I got the gears in person at Trans Am Nationals and installed them just over a year ago, easy repair and will last forever.

So i've been on Thirdgen before it even was thirdgen.org, and I'm still amazed at this community.
My current thirdgen only has 40k miles and the odo/trip just stopped (everything ages). And what do I find but a complete thread of people that have already worked this issue out!!
Thanks to those that did all the initial work! and helped get odometergears kit ironed out!!!
