C6 Corvette gauges in a Third Gen Camaro

How hard would it be to make a C6 gauge cluster work in a car that is not a C6? Seems like a simple enough question, but would possibly be quite difficult to do and have work properly.

The story: I have a ’08 C6 Corvette and a ’92 Camaro that is in kinda rough shape that I plan on turning into a striped down track car with a LS1 or L33 and T56. I was somewhere and saw a C6 gauge cluster for like $100 or something and started thinking about how much I’d love to have the same gauges in both cars.

The car will more than likely not have a dash, so, fitting in the spot where the gauges are now is not an issue. It will have some kinda custom housing. The C6 gauge cluster just had one plug on the back, so, I’m thinking that there would have to be some kinda small computer to receive signals from different sensors then “tell” the gauges what to say. Make sense?

Anybody have any idea?

If you go to the obd3 ecm and steal the dash harness and gauges from the vette this would take care of the electronic problem. You might could cut the vette dash top at a seam and blend it to your 92 dash and cover it in leather. Or make a fiberglass custom dash and simply cut and mount the c6 gauges in the factory area for the 92 gauges. One of those guys at a radio shop that builds those custom bass enclosures could do it. I have a C5 and love the gauges in them. Would also like to see the console gauges from a new camaro made into a custom 3rd gen console using a 3rd gen factory clock. Lots of ideas but no fiberglass talent to make it happen.

By the way, the engine will be as stand alone as possible and I'd prefer to use GPS speedo instead of reading off the trans.

Huh? So you want to use the Vette gauges, but not the speedometer?

And I can't think of a reason why anyone would want to use a GPS speedo?

Not a GPS speedo as in the gauge. The C6 Speedo would get it's readings from a little black box instead of the transmission tail shaft or where ever.

Because my speedo would be right no matter what tire size or gear ratio I had.

This is the "ICE-9" Camaro from Hot Rod magazine. It is my inspiration.

Ok. Have you ever used one of those? In my experience they are notchy and slow to update. Not something I would want.

That is a cool car. But I am still very confused. That isn't a C6 cluster. Its about as far away from a C6 as possible.

No, I have never used one. I mean, It wouldn't be too hard for me to stick with a somewhat correct tire size and really I'll probably actually never change the rear end gears again. I think with a T56 the 3.73s will be pretty good. Good power without overly high RPMs on the highway. I would like to actually drive it to track days.

The desire to go to GPS speedo for me comes from the fact that currently I still have the 305/700R4 and when I put the 3.73s and changed out the speedo gears, they striped within a few miles and I think they may be dying again. I would just like to not have to drive down the road with a cop behind me having to guess my speed based on RPM with my engine roaring at 3500 through long tubes and a flowmaster. Know that feeling? I do.

The ICE-9 car is the inspiration for my entire car. That car is almost Exactly what I have been wanting to do to my Camaro since the day I bought it.

I wasn't referring specificly to his gauges. Sorry for the somewhat confusing post. I just want to have the C6 gauges.

Re: C6 Corvette gauges in a Third Gen Camaro

Going to revive this old thread if anyone is interested.

I have a 2005 Vette for parts to modify a 1975 c3 Vette. I’ve already checked the dash dimensions for the C6 dash in a c3 - will not work without redoing the entire shell. 6” difference.

At this point, I am thinking about possibly doing this for my 1990 GTA. Already doing a 489 BBC with Twin Turbos. Modifying a lot of other things, mostly bolt-on stuff. This would be a great way to test this theory and see if it can be done. I can try to include pics along the way if it can be done and see where we can go from there.
