Overhead console MOD

Has anyone modified their overhead console? I'm thinking of removing the useless reminder dial thing and fabbing in something like a switch panel or some kind of digital display.....ideas welcome!

Re: Overhead console MOD

Google "Panasonic RM-710" or "Panasonic cockpit" for some really cool overhead consoles.

They're old skool (cassette) but if you like buttons, switches, etc. the RM-710 is for you.

There's a 710 on ebay right now (Item 200829236830). Current bid is at $42.

Interesting piece. Another that is similar is their rm-310, which sold for a hundred. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PANASONIC-CO...p2047675.l2557

MY god I love it.
I might have to blow some disposable income on that just for the fun of it.

Re: Overhead console MOD

Panasonic makes/made some pretty interesting stuff. There's a double-DIN vacuum tube amp CD/MP3 deck on ebay. Kind of a mix of old and new. The tube is behind a window on the front panel. Weird but kinda cool.

Item No. 261101118300

Uh, yeah. It's at over $350/shipped now.

Very cool looking piece, I had no idea that anything like this existed as far as aftermarket stuff. Too bad it's a cassette deck. Not to mention the ridiculously high price. Still looks cool though!

BTW, if you buy one of those cockpit radios, make sure it comes complete with the amp and the wiring harness. The harness uses din connectors and the amp is specific to these units and without it it's useless. Power runs off the amp.

Do you have any photos of your modified roof console?

80s technology is so cool haha. Integrate an aux input to it and make a retro ipod dock. I bet Skid Row never sounded so good..

I think that consumption meter would be nice there. Chrysler Voyager has it just there.

Re: Overhead console MOD

Ive planned to put all sorts of different things up there.

My most recent was a 05 Grand Prix GTP driver info center. I went as far as to buy all the parts, and had it working in my car...sorta. I just couldnt get it to function how I was hoping. Would have been awesome IMO.

Ive thought about mounting my G-Tech Pro's LCD up there and leaving the body attached somewhere else.

Lots of other ideas. But in the end, I end up loving the factory, somewhat rare, console, and couldnt bring myself to cutting it up haha.
