If I plug in Defogger/Trunk buttons, will it work if car didn't have options?

Alright, I'm doing all my dash repairs this week. My car DOES NOT HAVE the Trunk Release Button or Defogger Button Options. I had the deletes. Behind the dash there are 2 cables with the harnesses, I assume it's the Trunk Release and Defogger. They look like they just need to be plugged in. If I get the buttons...and just plug it in...will it work?

Idk about birds but the trunk pop in camaros without the buttons don't have the relay at the switch or he one in back to pop it, as far as the defogger goes I don't see why it wouldn't be plug and play

If your back glass doesnt have the grids with wiring going to each corner of the glass, then plugging in a switch wont work.

Not sure on the hatch...

Hatch button for my 87 is in the center console. Id look to see if there were wires under the paneling near the hatch latch too. Biggest question is how much of a pain is it to change that out to a motorized one? As for the defogger you'll definatly need a window with the heating elements. Not sure if it affect the weight on the hydraulic pistons. You might want to swap them too.

Right, the rear window does not have the defogger in it, I wonder if the wires are over there in the side molding?

As far as the trunk pop switch, I have that robotic trunk that I'm always scared people are going to slam! Would just a OEM switch, pop it?

I'm sure I could dig up both switches on here or ebay.

Or just save those switch spots to unlock the turbo-boost...

The trunk release wiring plug is in the center console,I thought????
The two behind or around the instrument panel are rear defroster and fog lights. ( at least on a Camaro I believe)

Yes, I took off the gauge Bezel and there were 2 plugs there, covered in dust like the lost ark.

Re: If I plug in Defogger/Trunk buttons, will it work if car didn't have options?

Birds have the defog and hatch release in the dash... Camaros only have the defog in the dash and the release in the console.

Anyways, no, the switches aren't going to just work. You MAY need to run a wire for the hatch release from under the dash all the way to the release solenoid (which you WILL need to add as it's NOT already there) in the tail. And you MAY also need to get a "horn" relay for the release plug under the dash (mine was already in place, some may not have it). If you don't have defog, you will also need to run the wiring for that as well as getting the defog glass AND the module and bracket that bolts behind the lower front dash panel on the passenger's side.

Re: If I plug in Defogger/Trunk buttons, will it work if car didn't have options?

since i already had a remote for the door locks with a second button for the trunk,i just ran a wire from the hatch to the module for my lock remote.i use the remote to open the trunk.btw adding the electric release is very easy.it just bolts on to the lock already in the car.don't forget the ground wire.

Yep, and pulling the lock adapter off of the lock can be a royal PITA (the solenoid comes with a plastic actuator for the lock behind the motor unit so it can be "bypassed" with the key). Might want to wear gloves or something as that thing comes off with a LOT of force if it's never been removed and can take skin with it.
