Malfunctioning Gauges

Hey there,

I just joined the sight seems to have a lot of useful information.

I bought myself an 88 iroc with the l98 and im having some problems with my guages. my temp guage is completely useless and im wondering if the guage itself is done or if its just the sending unit. My speedo also seems to be way off and jumps wildly if I mash the pedal.

Any input would be greatly appeciated.
thanks
Zach

The gauges are notoriously wrong in these cars bro... As for the speed-o, its prolly your speed-o gear in the rear of the tranny... Also would be the speed-o gear ring on the output shaft... you can see both if you'll pull the housing out and have a look w/ a flashlight...

Please note the link above. That your issues are related is doubtful.

welcome,as for the temp gauge ,do this;on the left side head between cyls #1 and 3, is the sending unit for the gauge. there SHOULD be a green wire attached to it . have someone turn the key on while you remove and ground the wire .it should go to full hot when grounded. if not then the gauge is probably toast.the good news is the gauge is still available.GM part #25034460. i got mine from "franzen chevy" 402-773-5538 $61.96 incl shipping!

Re: Malfunctioning Gauges

Hey guys I been browsing the site I'm new here also. Bought an 87 irocz just a project car. It was salvaged the wiring is all hacked up with wire nuts every where and random wires knitted in weird places I'm putting a Carb motor in it and just pulling wiring out. I wrecked my stock speedometers cable to in pulling motor and transfer. IV seen some cool auto meter gauges installed in the dash. They way I'm reading someone sells a kit to put gauges in the dash rather fabing up my own gauge cluster but have had no luck finding anything some point me in right direction
