behind dash smoke....:(
i have an 87' trans am ttop 5spd 350ci....
the insulation decided to catch fire behind the dash in the trans am. everything is ok!!! fire department was at my house. i took apart my dash in atleast 8 mins...found the insulation started to burn. now its sitting there and i have a bunch of wires on the driver and passenger side, but i need to get the dash completely out so i can get behind my heater box.....which that is another question i have on how to take out. i need to know what id have to do to get the dash completly out. liek i said i got the dash to where the fire department could get the PW (pressurized water) to get the insulation to stop smoking!!! also how the heater box can come out so i can get behind it, to check out what actually went wrong and fix the problem.
thanks guys...heres soem pictures
my car, with new ws6 wheels
how the dash sits now
what im guessing caught fire

Re: behind dash smoke....:(
i am in the same situation my insulation caught on fire cause i was welding patch panals in it melted my heater box and destroyed the vats box. i have my dash all the way out and sitting on my seats, other than one harness that runs from the driver side to the rear speakers and i think to the center consol. this harness has no connectors in it so i can remove the hole dash and harness. but all i did to get that far was remove all the connectors to the steering colmn, brake light switches and all that good stuff but rite now i am stumped on how to get the whole dash out.

i got my dash to barely sit on my front seats. but i just need connectors or wires to come off....ive done dashes at my work but on newer cars (11 escape) connectors and bolts were easy to access most of them anyway

So what do you need to know
to take the dash out or the heater box inside the car
let me know and I can explain the heater box and is your car AC or AC delete

Not sure what the question is but it looks like you have the dash almost out.You just have to unhook the wiring and fish some of the wiring through the dash shell. If your asking how to get the heater box out there are a few screws in the engine compartment side and on the inside under the carpet in the foot well.

On the heater box to completely remove it for the firewall you have to take out all the screws inside and a couple under the hood that hold the AC box on to the firewall. Its the only way to completely remove it. I took all the insulation out of my car as it was mouldy and rotten. Not to mention it reaked from 20+ years of being in the car
