Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
The factory mouning brackets for the gto are on the sides instead of stright into the floor boards like in an f-body. So ill need to do some fab work but it doesn't seem too complicated. Ill get some pics of The test fit and post them when I have time.

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
Is that bottom cushion 1 solid piece? May want to get black leather seat bottoms from a maro/bird to make something about this a little simpler, but those back seats look comfy as hell. Catalog all of this venture, especially on the back seats, I'm interested in maybe doing the seat backs myself.

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
The rears are two sepererate pieces; top and bottom. The only real problem is that they have that extra material in between, but its looks easy to remove. Just need to cut the support holding it together. Ill get some detailed pics for you guys and you'll see what I mean. Thanks for the advice.

Is the rear seat back width correct? Just seems a little narrow but that could be the picture and/or my laptop screen

Even if it didn't, that would look AWESOME separated top to bottom, would love if those headrests were movable, they look like they may be but not sure.

Yes sir, the headrests move up and down just like the fronts! Sorry im not at home to get the exact measurements. But when sitting side by side, they looked like they'd fit like a glove. Thanks for the positive comments guys!

Alright I got a few pics of the rear seats compared to the oem ones. The oem seats are slightly wider, but you'll see in the picture that it wont make much of a problem.
Here are a few of that material that im going to have to cut in order to get the mid section off.

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
from what i remember about others trying to put GTO seats in an Fbody, there are some issues with it.
the seats are wider, and when installed or mocked up, the door arm rest hits it pretty sigificantly.. also the seats hit the center console..
there were issues with this in the thirdgen and 4thgen, which is why you dont see this swap more... not to mention, the seat sits very high, the third and 4thgen seats are very low...
good luck if you can make it work, i think the height issue is the main reason people give up on the swap... unless you're really short.. lol

man those seats are huge lol. i remember riding in my buddys gto and pondered the idea of his seats in my 3rdgen, and they just physicaly looked enormous. so i went with corvette c4 seats which fit pretty nice, and very minor work to get to fit. but i would love see how yours turn out though.

Here's the mock up.. so far the only real issue is the height.
The reason it sits so high is because the gto bolts in from the side instead of directly to the floor and it adds alot of the height. If those brackets are trimmed they'll sit significantly lower.. I plan on weldind a bracket on the sliders and drill holes in the exact position as the factory bolts. Here's wht I mean by the extra height

Oh and here's a pic of how the seats fit width wise. Its pretty close to the armrest but they don't touch at all and the door closes just fine

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
Are the GTO tracks removable like most GM cars? Seems to me that most of the late 80's up to the 2000's have a 4 bolt track system where you can just unbolt the track from the donor seat and bolt up the F-body track... I dunno if the GTO is even close, as it's a Holden, but.......
I think what you really need to do is consult an upholstery company (one that does automotive stuff). My father-in-law owns a shop and I've seen him modify stuff to make it work in other cars... You'd definitely need something to finish the backs of the rears for use on the Fbody.... Good luck!

I met a guy who said they bolted right in. Maybe he meant they bolted right in, using the F-body seat tracks...

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
This morning I tried to mount the fbody Tracks. I measured the holes on the tracks and compared them to Te bolts on the seats and they seemed like they would fit, but when I went to mount them, they wouldn't fit because Te bolts on the GTO are slightly angled.. with a bit of modding, they'd fit bit id rather not hack them up.
I found this thread for a second gen and the guy was able to pull it off wit close to no modding to the seats or the factory mounting place. I may attempt something similar, but first does anyone know if the second gen dimensions are similar?

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
Mine are in. Not finished, but in. I used the 3rd gen tracks and they are close but you will have to drill holes in the bottom of the GTO front seats - 30 minute job and you are in like Flynn.
Now I do not know about the seat lean back function - I think I may have to run power to the seat - I see no manual lay back lever.
Rear seats are another story. Its a lot of work and you will most likely wish you hadn't started that. The seats are comfortable and look good, but they are too big. You will need to cut the centers out of bottom and back.
REAR BOTTOMS
I modified the frames of the bottoms just a little by narrowing the back about 1" on both sides that is both sides of BOTH bottoms. The front of the bottoms stick out too much and I MAY bring them to an upholster and get that trimmed - should be really cheap. Also shortened the frame about 1.5 inches by cutting off the rear. Welded a loop on the second front crossbrace to have something to bolt to
REAR BACK
The frames of the back rears are too wide at the bottom on both sides of BOTH sides, but mostly on the side to the outside of the car. I narrowed the frame and trimmed some of the foam and shoved it in. The back near the top is not finished so you'll have to make a panel and cover it with leather or carpet to cover that up. I also shortened the rear frame about 2". All of this can be done by someone with a mig with no upholstery work since the modified areas cannot be seen after installed. I also welded in extra 1/4" rod for new seat cover attachment points so that the cover will be tight after narrowing and shortening.
The rear seat may sit you slightly higher. Unsure as I have never sat back there before. I am 6'4" and I can sit in the back seat. My head doesn't hit the roof, its about 3" away. But I would not want to be back there in an accident as your head would likely hit the roof.
The front seat may sit you higher or my old seat may have been well broken in. I'm not too light in the rear.

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
Awesome job, have any pictures for reference? I figured I'd have to 86 a lot of the foam from the rear seats as they do sit significantly higher. As far as the fronts, I would have liked to keep the gto tracks with all of the power features and I wasn't too concerned with the height because it looked like the vertical feature on the lower seat had been raised all the way by the guy I bought them off of. I won't really know until I can hook up some power to the seats and bring them down. The one major thing that really concerned besides the rear seats was the hump on the passenger side floor pan where the cat is located. It makes it so that the seat sits awkwardly with the gto tracks. Since I will be doing the ls1 conversion, and the cats are mounted directly after the manifolds, I thought that I might be able to massage the floor pan a bit to bring the height down a bit. Nothing is said in stone, but it could be an option if everything checks out. I do remember a member on tech doing this swap and his had fit with plenty of head room. Now I never did find out if he used the gto seat tracks as it was an older thread but, it did keep me optimistic about the aforementioned idea. I'm glad that you got yours to fit, thanks for the tips.

Re: 04-06 GTO seat install in 91 z28
No pics yet. I just went out there and sat in the driver seat. It is not too high - I like it better than the other seat. I didn't have the tracts from the gto so I had to use mine one of which is power. I have to either mount my switches or wire them into the gto switches which i do have. Do you know if the motor for the seat lay back is on thegto tracks or in the seat? I would go with the gto tracks if I had them and just cut off the mounting points and weld more on - but I have not seen any yet, the hump you mention maybe a problem.
I will get pics tomorrow after I get it cleaned up a bit. Console is still out and radio pod is hanging loose - just changed carpet and put in a heater core too.
I almost had to go to the In- laws for the week or I wouldn't be this far. I had to stay here to get the old work car back on the road

The reclining motor is just inside the seat back. Not hard to get to at all, just takes removal of the small storage area.
