How to remove overspray from plastic trunk pieces
My car is still recovering from the paint job from hell. Long story. Don't get me started.
I have some maroon paint overspray left on my plastic trunk pieces along the driver's side. I tested a plastic strut cover with non-acetone nail polish remover. Even after applying it conversatively, it turned the plastic white after it dried. I tried plastic "safe" graffiti remover on the other strut cover. It took forever to see some results, and the plastic ended up maintaining its color, but it became smooth and soft. I have overspray on larger pieces, and I'm scared to try anything else until I know for sure. Any ideas?
To answer a few questions: (1) The shop went out of business while working on my car, and suing them or getting them to repair it is out of the question since the owner now has a 1/2 million dollar federal tax lien against him for failing to file federal income tax. (2) The plastic color is beechwood, and they were in close to immaculate condition, so finding replacements are nearly impossible. (3) I am a purist when it comes to my car, so going with another color is a last resort.

Since it is just over-spray combined with the fact most paint doesn't stick to plastic very well (without proper prep)you could try purchasing some quality auto interior cleaner (the kind safe for all surfaces) and some elbow grease to try to rub it off.

A little Orange Fantastik, a cleaner/degreaser, and a tooth brush should get the job done, like daslyboy said, paint dosn't stick well to the plastic. Fantastic is safe for our plastics, I use it all the time on mine, but if you are worried try it on another hidden surface before you do a whole panel, give it a try, good luck!

I would try this in a hidden spot first, but I have used brake fluid to remove overspray on plastic parts (bug shield) before.

Re: How to remove overspray from plastic trunk pieces
A good product that might help would be mineral spirits, buy at home depot. It will not damage paint. I have used it for tare removal, paint from another car on mine.
Acitone will damage and leave the white spots stiping any and all finish's. Mineral Spirits comes in a tin type can, in the paint section of home depot. I have used one my whole car to clean and shine car, from build up of soaps, wax,and tire marks. It works on almost all car parts. I use for interior plastic, you can't go wrong here!
