ok i have been wanting to put in an after market steering wheel with an nrg quick release...i finally got the money and ordered the unit+hub+wheel,and was wondering if a state trooper is going to get pissed at me for not having an airbag in my 1992 camaro? i haven't been able to find any florida law aginst removing the airbag,and i figured sense the bag in the wheel is the only one i could get away with removing it....any opinion is great thanks


p.s don't try to preach about the safety hazards of removing the airbag i already know about them...and if someone hits my car they will have to be more worried about me killing them then i have to be about a broken nose...thanks agine

 

No. I don't have one in my 89.

 

The air bag is more for you impacting a car from the front not them hitting you from the rear.

 

i thought the '89s didn't have airbags to start with...and i know they arnt ment for if your hit from behind....all i want to know is will i get in trouble for not having one in my '92?

 

if you have to go through a yearly safety inspection, that more likely where you would get nabbed. Ask your local inspection station to be sure

 

Technically it is against federal law to remove them but your average cop will hardly notice. Inspection might be a problem though.

 

I didn't want to mess with an air bag... one of the main reasons I bought an 89

 

No you won't get busted, Florida doesn't have safety or emissions inspections.

 

thanks everyone,i thought because of no inspections i would get away with it but figured i'd ask before doing it,i was just going to ask my friends but then i realized all their cars didn't have airbags in the first place sense they all have '60s and 70's muscle cars...but i think my question has been answered tanks everyone

 

We have inspections here in NC and airbags are not part of the inspection.

 

Also one thing to consider. If you do get hit and injured the insurance will not have to pay if you disable a safety device! The adjuster will see that and add it to the report!
