Re: what happened to the repro dash pads?
If you look around you can find mint OEM's way cheaper. I picked one up for $50 last weekend off the local craigslist. There is an ad on there now with a mint one for $100 from a salvage yard. A little patience and looking will pay off.

Re: what happened to the repro dash pads?
everyone has either deleted the listings or it says it will take forever to ship.
I've found a few ads for oem dashes, for the nicer ones people ask too much, and in the end I'm still going to have a brittle dash.
I guess that is what I'll have to do if the repro market isn't producing these anymore.

...and the new repro's are going for 400 bucks?!?!? That's insane I tell you.
In M.O., the pricing on the repro ones narrows it down to the few people that are doing a full restoration on their car, or have a LOT more $$ to throw around than I do. Those have to be a high profit item for the sellers of these because I don't think it costs anywhere near 400 bucks to make one...

Re: what happened to the repro dash pads?
That's my dilemma too. People want way too much for a perfect used one, But I'll most likely end up taking my chances if I can ever find a reasonably priced one.

Re: what happened to the repro dash pads?
$400 is more than I have to throw around too, dont get me wrong. But its the one thing in my interior keeping it from being show worthy.
Compared to my tbird I am currently restoring, just dashes wants $1300 to re-wrap and paint it. Didnt ask about thirdgen pads though...

Re: what happened to the repro dash pads?
I bought one of the $400 ones 2 summers ago and I don't regret it one bit. It made me cringe letting go of that much money for a dash but paying 50-100 for a used one is more expensive in the end. I bought a used one shortly after getting my camaro and it cracked within a year and a half.

Re: what happened to the repro dash pads?
Use BlackMagic TireWet to bring back to life and keep a 3rd gen or any dash soft and supple.
best done in the summer, soak down dash in the hot sun and let it soak in, come back every so often and spray on more, again don't wipe any off.
Do that several times.
Dunno how many time folks freaked over my central air in the car. Thinking I had ruined it. Remove fan and hr later the dash is reformed back to normal.
To many years of folks using water based stuff like armorall is what kills them, black magic is oil based.

Re: what happened to the repro dash pads?
you are correct. since the caps glue over the original setup, the speakers grills are flat perforated sections over the currently grill area. with all the ways I've seen these dash pads crack, finding a way to mold this area to fit every dash would be a nightmare
