Re: Rear Window Defroster
There are companies that make aftermarket ones. Google "rear window defroster" and you should find some options.

Re: Rear Window Defroster
Mine is a 91Z that didn't come with rear window defogger, but I have found the wiring for it doubled back on itself behind the area where the switch mounts. I got a switch from the junkyard, plugged it in and when I pushed it, I would hear a click under the dash and the light in the switch would come on and stay on for nine minutes. Just last week I found the single wire in the rear compartment that hooks up to the hatch lift support. So all I gotta do is go to the junkyard to get a rear glass with a grid and the ground wire that comes off the other lift support to the body and I'll have a rear defogger. Hopefully your car will have the same provisions, check it out, you may be supprised.

I'm planning on installing a defroster on the glass window of my new top. I already bought a switch and bezel for the dash and I noticed the wiring behind it as you stated. Can you tell me more info about the wire the "single wire in the rear compartment that hooks up to the hatch lift support"? What color is it, where is it running, etc. I know I have at least some of the wiring, but because it's a vert' I don't know if it's run all the way into the trunk compartment or not. Thanks in advance for your help!
Oh and small side note: I've read a lot about tinting over defrosters producing less than perfect results, with air bubbles over the grid. Does anyone know if it's okay to put tint down first, then the defroster - or does the grid have to be directly touching the glass?

Re: Rear Window Defroster
Mine is a hard top and the single wire is black with an "L" shaped end on it that slides over the metal clip on the hatch support. I believe yours will attatch directly to the defroster grid on the window, at least on my 97 it does anyway. I will attach a pic of the wire comes out so you can have a better idea. Also I attached a pic of the passenger side of how the ground wire attaches. I have yet to replace the pass side hatch support so it isn't hooked up yet, but you get the idea.

Re: Rear Window Defroster
Thank you very much, that is extremely helpful. Do you know how I could test for that wire - does it supply +12 when I hit the switch (until the timer shuts it off, obviously)?
Thanks again!
EDIT: found the defroster and tested it. Everything seems to work properly, so I'm going to order the defroster kit and I'll let everyone know how it goes.
