help needed
Ok guys the electric windows i liked at first now i hate them. Anyone have any clue whats wrong with mine? My window will roll up and down only about 3 inches. that is it is stuck about 4 inches down from the very top of the window and will only roll up and down from that position about 3 inches. when it does roll it is the normal speed and normal sound but when it hits the high and low it sounds like a gear is just spinning and catching somthing but not enough to roll it up or down any more. its actually a pretty loud. thunk thunk thunk thunk. if i press down on the actual window it will be louder and if i pick up on it it gets a little softer. please any help is very much needed. i have to park it at a lot for a week starting tom and would like to be able to have the window all the way up. even if its something that will just keep the window up all the time. i dont care

Re: help needed
Sounds like the teeth on the regulator or the window motor are worn down in that spot. More than likely the window motor - time for new motors.
I suppose there could be a rivit that rusted out, thus making the motor twist under pressure, and making the motor gear not engage the regulator entirely. Or a bolt for the regulator having come loose, causing the regulator to move under pressure and thus not being fully engaged by the motor.
Either way - time to take the panel off and investigate - maybe you'll be able to see the problem, and temp prop the window up (closed) until you can get the issue resolved.
BTW - if window motors haven't been replaced in this car, it's way overdue!

Re: help needed
Did you take the panel off and find the problem? Could be the rollers are out of their tracks. Could be the tracks came loose and are binding. Motors dead, regulator lost teeth ... Could be a whole list of problems - we can't see it, so we can't be much help until you take the panel off the door and find the problem.

The clear plastic looking stuff? Yeah, you can just gently pull it off. It's liable to stretch and not be useful again. It's what they call the water shield - keep leaking outer window seals from wetting down and destroying the cardboard door panel. All it is is plastic sheeting - can cut and adhere any plastic sheeting (like a drop cloth) after you're done to reseal the door.

Re: help needed
No - no need to remove skins - it can all be done through the openings available - maybe these will help:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...servation.html
http://www.p71interceptor.com/thirdgen/powerwindows/
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...tall-easy.html
The last one - before this was posted, many folks removed the window motors and regulators as one unit somehow, so there will be old threads on how to remove regulators through the door openings - maybe try searching window regulator or something.
