I just got my 84 a couple weeks ago, and im almost done sorting out all the electrical demons its thrown at me, so the next item on the list is replacing the beat to hell steering column. Either the PO took it apart and forget how to get it back together, or the worst car thief in the world tried stealing it.

Any ways im shopping around for a new column, and was wondering, will any 3rd gen column work? I know the 90-92's had the vats system and airbags, and i also know that you can get around the vats system. im not worried about airbags either.

What would be involved in putting a newer column? (if theyll even fit/bolt in) Assuming i get a tilt w/ intermittant wipers and cruise, would i have to dive into the guts of the column or just bolt it in and swap the wiring connectors at the bottom?
