Steering Column Help
Alright, for the longest time barely anything on my lever works. The left blinker sticks, the right blinker doesnt stay up when turned on and the bright lights dont turn on. the only thing you hear go "click" is the left blinker and I have to pull it up after I make my turn. My dad and I took the steering wheel off to try and figure out what the problem was. We hit a roadblock when it came to some metal piece where you can see the brass prongs holding something in place. There is also a black metel piece that looks similar to a saw blade. We dont know how to take it off. But we could see that the lever wasnt catching when we turned on the right blinker and bright lights. However, the right blinker worked if I flipped the lever back (like turning on your bright lights) and then up. It's wierd. So we put everything back the way it was and when I turned the car on the horn started blowing and didnt stop until I punched the center cap of the steering wheel. The horn went off whenever I flipped the lever back or up. So I disconnected both horns and took them out and now when I steer or use the right blinker it sounds like the steering wheel is haveing some kind of electrical problems. You can hear sparks. Obvious there is a short somewhere. I don't know what to do and I hope you guys can help. Thanks.

Re: Steering Column Help
It's hard to understand what you're hung up on without pictures. I think I may know the metal piece you're talking about. Is it about an inch long and on the left side of the column? If that piece breaks, the signal lever will just flop around. I really don't know if you can buy just that piece or not. You may be better off just changing out your entire column if you've got multiple problems. If you decide to go that route, we have them available on our site. Here's a link if you're interested. Thanks!!!

Re: Steering Column Help
I'll try to upload some pics, but the piece I am referring to is the whole diameter of the column.

It sounds like the steering wheel lock plate you are referring to. You can replace the whole turn signal column switch and the internal turnsignal parts, they have them at Autozone. Also pick up the Haynes manual which has step by step instructions on how to do it, with pictures etc. The Horn problem is because you didn't reconnect the horn wire correctly and it is grounding in there.

Re: Steering Column Help
Alright thanks. Do you know how much those parts may cost? Im on a tight bugdet working about 11 hrs/ week and it takes $50/ week to gas my car up.
Is that thick yellow wire in the center under the wheel go to the horn? Cause if it is, half of it is gone.
