Shifter Change?
Curious if anyone has or if possible, doing a horseshoe shifter change out and if possible to customize my own plastic top to resemble this (http://www.gmdownunder.com/9432-71chevelle11b.jpg) Sorry can't get such a good picture but just curious if its been done. I'd love to convert and if I had to, i don't mind making my own shifter plate. Btw i have a 700r4

Re: Shifter Change?
Hmm that sounds interesting. Shouldn't be hard they sell a kit to make the shifter work with our 700R4 transmission. (Link) All you need now is the shifter part. I don't know about customizing the current shift plate but you could get some of the plastic and try to find a decent Chevelle shifter plate in a junkyard and trace it on to the plastic. Like to see pic after it is done. Could check on ebay for the shifter.

Re: Shifter Change?
Thats what i'm thinking but i'm wanting to do a bit more research because i notice some had different plates on the bottom for mounting, if they were a 2 spd or 3 spd along with the TH700/700R4 conversion, i just want to make sure and the cable will work properly.. I don't mind the fabricating of the shift plate yet, just want to make sure the mechanism works. just wish they made some basic replica's so it cost less.

Re: Shifter Change?
I was always wondering how to convert those shifters to 4-speed. I was thinking about it for my car after I get it running. I have an advantage I already have a shifter or two here. (Bought for a different project that I sold) Modifying the shift plate will take some work but could certainly be done and look good.

I lost interest in the project. It became very pricey to do. I dont have money to throw around. Id love to do projects but no money to help start to get something going. I wish everyone the best of luck if they do decide on trying to project out! Post pictures if you do try it!

Re: Shifter Change?
Hey! Me and my Fiancé are doing this mod. I got mines on eBay. It will be a while before we can do the mod, still got to put the engine together and buy some more engine parts and tools to buy before starting the mod. My Fiancé says he has a idea on how to do the mod. I will post pics in the near future!!
